Default Web Browser Problem

I don't know if anyone else has come across this, but when I use the built in browser, it's loading the crappy vodafone page in the background and I try to go into the book marks, it kicks out of the browser completely.

You have to wait for the full page to load before you can use bookmarks safely.

Has anyone else come across this problem?

I'm assuming you're talking about the S60 browser rather than Opera?

How are you accessing the browser -

1)applications -> web (goes to book marks directly)
2) long press of 0 from idle screen -> connects to your "home page" directly without prompt to connect
3) using the media key/soft key/app short cut from home screen (should go to book marks without connecting)

If I try to force to book marks while VF live is loading from option 2 then yes, it exits. I'm still on version:
2.0539.1.1
29-09-05
RM-84

Anyone else get this on a later verison?

As a work around:

if you want a quick shortcut to your bookmarks then set your media key (applications -> tools -> media key (the one that looks like a diamond) ) or one of the home screen (idle screen) shortcuts (applications -> tools -> settings -> phone -> standby mode, from where you can set the left and right soft keys and the "active standby apps") to "web" Then you'll have a single press to your book marks.

Alternatively, if you don't like the "crappy vodafone page" then set something else as your homepage ;P
From book marks, highlight the one you want, options (lsk) -> advanced options -> set as homepage.

I am bringing up the Built In S60 browser with the long press of the 0 key.

I am also running a slightly later version of the software :

2.0539.1.2
19-10-05

I will be setting the home page to my own oage of choice. :P I really just wanting to raise this to see if anyone else had experienced it.

Just tried the above on a 6680 (also a S60 handset) on the 3 network and it does not bomb out, Options brings up the menu, Bookmarks aborts the web page download and goes straight to the bookmarks from which I can choose where to go next. Which is what I figure teclo is trying to do, unsuccesfully.

Vodafone branding "feature" or S60 [N70 implimentation] fault?

Yes it is...

I press 0 until the browser launches, which instantly starts downloading the page set as my home page. This is currently the Vodafone Live home page. As this page is downloading, I select options then bookmarks. When I do this, the app instantly exits.

it only really seems to happen when you do it on the first page download.

Hmmmm, although both S60 handsets I seem to recall that there were changes [improvements!?!] made betwixt the 6680 and N70 browsers.

As the 0 shortcut loads the homepage as opposed to just launching the browser I'd imagine that's the source of the problem. I know you *should* be able to interrupt such a 'simple' operation, but the world and S60 are far from perfect.

Luckily, as you mention, simply setting up your homepage of preference should work wonders - or perhaps even setting up some sort of blank page so nothing has to load at all before you can access those bookmarks of yours.

Wouldn't it be great if we could set speed dials not just for numbers, but also for specific web pages and applications? © Me!
