N70 MP3 Player Query
Hello all,
Quick question: Y'know the MP3 player on the N70 right? Well you know the layout of the screen? ..Track name, Artist, Time left on song at the bottom.. play pause etc on the right and a picture of some earphones on the left? Well I was going through some of my mp3s this morning when I hit Gold Digger by Kanye West.. THEN - that pic of those earphones? Well that was replaced by a picture of Kanye West's album cover. "COOL"..i said. I wonder how it knows that?! So. How does it know? Is it a certain kind of MP3? Or is it something I've done differently on the phone? Ideally I'd like to have this with all of my mp3s.. but I dont how to do it! Cheers for any help! |

Cheers Yssybyl!
My N70 is my MP3 player! It helps having a Gig's worth of dv rs-mmc of course. But yeah - I didnt download the track from my Phone/Vodafone Live! Its a "home ripped" one off the PC. Plus - I like your guess - I thought that too, but the picture it uses isnt in my Nokia Gallery. *shrug* Who knows?! |

You can add Album images yourself by adding them to the ID3V2 tag inside the mp3.
There are tag editors that allow you to do this yourself if you wish to do so. The ID3V2 tag system is quite capable of storing images and lyrics along with your normal song information. The maximum tag size is is 256 meg! Look HERE for more info. |

Cheers Teclo!
ID Tags and Tag Editors eh? Sounds interesting - I havent got the foggiest where to start looking for such a thing or once I found it - how to use it! But its cool that the N70 is able to identify them. Is it a simple process do you know? I might start looking into ow to do it all.. Its just cool having the album cover there y'know? |

Don't say I am not good to you.
I've just done a couple of experiments with tag editors and such and have this to report. I downloaded and tested a Tag Editor called Tag&Rename 3.2. It is overly complicated for adding pictures to the mp3 files, but it works. I opened the ID3 tages for a file and added a picture, saved it then copied it to the phone. The picture of my ugly mug appeared in the mp3 player on the phone. I then fired up iTunes and imported the same file and the picture appeared in iTunes. So with this information I imported a freshly ripped mp3 file without a picture into iTunes, right clicked on it and viewed the file info then added a JPEG. Again in itunes, I right clicked on the file then used "Show Song File" to show me the location of the file on my hard drive. I then copied this file to the phone and lo, the file played and displayed my face. So there you go, two different ways of doing it. Using a dedicated Tag manager or using iTunes. Hope that helps. |

I tried to add a picture using Windows Media Player 10 on Windows XP.
The only way I could add a picture was to go into Library mode, right click on a file then select "Advanced Tag Editor". This allowed me to add a picture to the file. I copied the file to the phone but sadly the added picture would not display. WMP allows you to specify the type of picture added and I am unsure if this has any impact on what gets displayed on the phone. Again, I hope this helps. |

Managed to add the pics using Windows Media Player 10 last night via that Advanced Tag Editor you mentioned.
Cheers man - really useful info that. I know what I'm going to be doing this weekend! lol |

Did the picture appear in the media player on your phone? If so what did you specify the picture as? I tried it as a user defined picture and it wouldn't appear.
Good luck with it. I know I've spent a lot of time doing it myself in Itunes. ( Much easier if you ask me )

Well what I did was right-click on the Album in the actual player.
"Advanced Tag Editor", then "add picture" which I did from one of my picture folders on my Pc. For this exercise I had the actual album cover photo. I specified it as the "Album Cover (front)" and WMP put the pic on all the tracks in that album. At first I thought you had to do it one MP3 at a time - but after having a bit of a fiddle I managed to do it one album at a time. Its cool man - I checked it this morning and it works fine. "Suddenly I See" is now accompanied by a little pic of KT Tunstall. But yeah - I wouldnt have known where to look if it werent for your input - cheers again bro. |
