Default Orange & Nokia N70

Hi Guys,

Had the N70 on Orange for about a month now, but I hate the grey background on the Home Screen.

Please, please, please can someone tell me if it can be changed?

I hated the Orange homsescreen on my 6680 when I got it, lasted 3 days before I went to my nice local Nokia repair centre (located in a CPW) where they reflashed the phone with the standard Nokia one. Took a couple of hours, and at no cost to myself. The marked it down as a "software problem"

Find your nearest one here: http://www.nokia.co.uk/nokia/0,,77483,00.html

Indeedy, to remove the Homescreen you have to go through the process of having different firmware installed. Going generic will remove some of the preinstalled Orange applications, such as PvPlayer which is used to play videos downloaded from Orange World.

We have a version of PvPlayer available for download here which might work, but just be aware that by going back to Nokia's generic software you'll be losing all of Orange's customisations: https://talk3g.co.uk/showthread.php?t=1321

I think its worth losing some of the applications to get rid of the orane homescreen. I got my N70 on orange on Friday, and I really can't stand the grey theme with that dreaded wallpaper, and the menu on the side may be a little useful but annoying all the same, because I'm used to pressing the center key to bring up the main menu. My nearest repair centre is in Aberdeen, so it might be worth a trip on the train.

I have tried to use the Themes folder to change the background but this does not resolve anything still the same grey background, its awful really is. So only way is to visit a Nokia Service Centre? Whats the cost?

No cost if you can convince them it's a warranty fix as you're having problems with the Orange customisations. Good luck!

If you get the right person in the repair centre you'll be fine, I just explained that I didn't want the phone unlocked, didn't want anything new or difficult done, I just wanted the Orange homescreen off the phone. I think the chap knew where I was coming from and didn't really hesitate to take the phone in for me!

Right, I hope this is not the start of many more problems/issues to come. But when ever someone rings me I now get played the Nokia Tune and it wont play any of my tunes either on phone mem or off the mem card?

Any ideas?

You can listen to them, and set the one you want. But when it comes to playing when someone rings - it don't want to have any of it!

check your software version. there was an issue with some early releases that tunes that had digital rights management took longer than the benchmark 3 seconds to decode and start playing, and so the Nokia tune would cut in by default (rather than have a silent call). This should have been fixed in later versions (iirc including and after 0539.1.1). If your tunes aren't DRM and/or you have a recent version then I'm not sure what the problem could be. If it is a software problem then that's a good reason to get a non-orange update

Fixed it...

Answer was:

I must have selected for one of my downloaded ringtones to be placed in the phones men and also on the men card.

It must not like this, even though it was not the tone that I asked as a ring tone. Always played the Nokia Tune no matter what ringtone I selected.

So I deleted the one off the phone, and now its working again.

Was wondering why all of a sudden my phone was not playing the tone I asked it for!

Stupid....

No more problems please!!

Tools - Settings - Security - Phone & Sim

Choose an autolock period in minutes and it will lock on it's own. However to unlock you need to enter a security number that you set.

Hope this helps
