How to manually update your Nexus One without waiting for the OTA update

Doing this will not prevent you receiving future OTA updates. It is quite safe to do this manually. But the usual caveats apply ...

This update requires the Nexus One to be running Build number ERD79 and will update it to ERE27. You can check which build you are by going to Settings, About phone and scroll to the bottom of the page.

NB: I suggest you read the instructions carefully. The procedure will reboot your Nexus One at least three times while it unpacks the files, updates the radio and then the OS itself. Some button manipulations take several attempts to work. If you persist it will be okay.

One bit of clarification to make things easier at the following step

8.Now press the power button and volume up button at the same time. It could take a couple of tries.

Press and hold the power button, AND THEN the volume up button, in that order

Also before step 9, it asks you to Reboot. Do this by using the trackball to select "reboot" which is the first in the menu. Be careful not to accidentally press the trackball until you have "reboot" highlighted.
