Has anyone else noticed this?

Ignore for a moment that O2 want you to install Silverlight completely unnecessarily (shame on them).

I'm really impressed that they show the locations of masts. It gives the resulting coverage a certain amount of legitimacy, don't you think? Does any other network do this?

Yup, O2 have the best coverage checker of any network imo.

Not aware of any other network that does this - Everything Everywhere don't even update Ofcoms Sitefinder.

Yup, another example of the toothlessness of OFCOM.

O2's coverage checker certainly looks slick. But is it accurate in terms of the user experience or is it as typically wildly optimistic as its predecessor and other networks? If past experience is anything to go by the answer is that it is going to be optimistic. Unless, that is, Ben's experience bears out over more of O2's network than UMTS at 2100MHz has been able to.

This weekend I'll be taking the giffgaff (O2) SIM out for a try in the Samsung Galaxy S2 to assess the 3G/900

It's scarily accurate here, and I can see how the signal propagates from the masts and travels according to the lay of the land. I'm amazed really; are Telefonica slowly transforming O2 into a heavyweight?

Live chat on the website is really good; when I go to the business contact section during office hours I get invited to chat. Sales, support, all live and in the browser with a transcript for print or email at the end.

On the phone... Well, I've been told to wipe my SIM twice now :p but hey, it's UK!

Got an Android app that'll let you know if you're on 3G900 or 3G2100?

On Android, start up the Phone app, tap for the Dialler and then dial *#*#4636#*#* which will bring up the hidden Testing app. Tap Phone information and all will be revealed. Hopefully there will be one of those values that will tell you whether or not you are on 3G900 or 3G2100
