Ok, I'm really confused:
http://www.investopedia.com/terms/q/quarter.asp
"You'll hear the following abbreviations:
Q1 - January, February, and March
Q2 - April, May, and June
Q3 - July, August, and September
Q4 - October, November, December"

I don't think the financial year has anything to do with quarters - all the financial reports I've managed to find on google refer to the quarters as Q1 being Jan, Feb, Mar. There can't possibly be two different meanings otherwise when companies issue Q1 results, for example, no one would know what period they actually reflected!

Well, I worked for Capita group and I am currently a board director and thats who we define it

A company might refer to Financial year quarters when discussing performance etc - but when talking about product launches etc , it'll most likely be calender years
If it was the financial year ,then the period would be referred to as the two years it covers - (i.e. Q1 2002-2003 )
