Here's a Pop Quiz for you. "How many current UK MVNOs are there?"

Well, unless I lost count on the page of source information I've come across, there are some 63 separate, discrete MVNOs in the UK. Yes, that made me sit up and take a second look.

My source of information is the Prepaid MVNO website here; http://bit.ly/quVPdK

What is particularly surprising is the breakdown of network operators MVNO client networks, yet more surprises.

Based on their research;
Hutchinson 3G UK Ltd has 31 MVNO agreements
Vodafone Limited has 17 MVNO agreements
Everything Everywhere has 21 MVNO agreements with Orange and T-Mobile
Telefonica O2 UK Ltd has 10 MVNO agreements

The Prepaid MVNO website then has a comprehensive listing of each MVNO and some of their background. It is truly staggering to read what is out there in the airwaves that we simply do not know about.

Amazing what goes on behind the scenes!

Yea, how about that then? What is everyone's thoughts on Google getting in on the MVNO business in the UK? What could the MVNO be like if they were to do the same throughout the world [eventually]? Could we see something truly radical on the International Roaming front? Maybe something like a unified tariff wherever Google has presence? That would be so very cool.

The possibilities are endless, always assuming that Google, as an MVNO, could actually pull that off.

Google as an MVNO...good idea in theory, however, Google are generally a bit fail at CS.

How the hell did Three get more MVNOs than the others?!

What the report does not say is the size of these MVNO's. From what I gather 3's are small fry compared to T-Mobile's Virgin and O2's Tesco

Apart from the Ethnic networks lots of them are set up to attract SME's and not the general public

Have a look at this one from Vodafone - 4,000 customers http://www.mobilenewscwp.co.uk/2011/09/ethnic-mvno-desi-mobi-shuts-down/
