View Full Version : Huawei E585 will not send text messages

I've been using this dongle for about 9 months now, and have been pretty happy with it so far. This morning though, I tried to send a text message (my price plan includes 80 a month) for the first time. I access the browser-based control panel, go to text messages, compose and send a message, then after about 30 seconds it says, "Failed sending text message." I also tried with my iPod, but just got the same message. I've tried sending messages to two different numbers, and tried both the +44... and 07... versions of the number.

I've been searching for a solution to this problem for well over an hour, but I can't find any information. There has never a problem receiving messages with the E585. I did have an older USB dongle with Three, and that was fine for sending messages, but I've given it away now, so can't just swap SIMs.

If anyone out there knows what's going wrong, please let me know how to fix this! My technical knowledge is pretty limited and I'm probably just being a dope...

you need the correct message center number to send texts, you can receive texts without it. I've no idea what it is though

Thanks for that. I had actually found a forum thread saying exactly that, but I cannot find any option to change the message centre number, or even see what it's currently set to. I have pressed every single button several times, and I'm now convinced that I can't change it :(

http://mymobile.three.co.uk:8080/mymobile/Huawei/E585/img/1087101%20User%20Guide%20HiRES.pdf

as on page 10 of the guide, it should be in settings

# Then find the section 'Change Your Settings'
# After that enter admin password (By default the password is 'Admin')
# And click Log In
# Then click Advanced Settings

somewhere in here,

# After all this click Save then Continue with Advance Settings and Connection Settings

Thanks a lot for taking the time to post. Alas, these are the buttons I have already pressed numerous times without success. The more I look at it, the more I think the programmer has just overlooked this option, rendering the device unable to send messages.

I've taken a few screenshots (cut up and put together, as the settings are inexplicably spread out over loads of pages), and highlighted where I think it should be. I've put in an image of every single option in these categories. There is nothing useful there, and it's not in any of the other settings either.

It's infuriating! An option for inputting a message centre number just does not appear to exist! Oh well.
