For the first time an all-white iPhone finally goes on sale. Apple have set the official date as the 28th, but there are reports around the web that units are slipping out already.
The manufacturing issues Apple has faced with the white version are something of a mystery, and the timing of this release given the typical summer iPhone refresh schedule is bizarre, but many will just be happy to be able to buy the iPhone they wanted all along.
Will you be buying white?

I think it looks lush, gotta say. However, with no benefit over the black version I wont be buying.
As a side note, Three's new pricing for iPhone 4 is not to be ignored. £29 for the handset on a £35 per month contract is fantastic value!

I also think the white iPhone 4 is very, very attractive. It'd go so nicely with my white iPad 2!
Maybe if I went into Apple re: my cracked back I could pay the repair fee of £139 and swap out for a white one.......
STOP IT BEN! Does someone have a wet fish they could slap me about a bit with, please?
Yes, Three's iPhone deals are delectable, aren't they? I feel like taking out a few contracts just to congratulate them on being so awesome! Their coverage is so improved, now, too, this joint venture with T'orange (MBNL) has been wildly successful. I'm in the position now where I'd recommend anyone wanting to buy a white iPhone 4 actually look at Three first!

Ah ok. The original issue in the black iPhone was fixed with a software update. While the new casing of the white iPhone may help the proximity sensor to work better, the hardware inside is going to be identical...

Not a big deal you might think, and you'd be right if it wasn't for case makers, many of whom have designed exclusive cases compatible with the iPhone 4, or as it might turn out – compatible only with the black iPhone 4.
and the reason
Even more interesting, however, is the reason behind the added girth. Senior VP at Apple, Phil Schiller, mentioned that an extra coat of UV protection has been added along with other modifications to help preserve that snow white cover more white and less yellow.

The White iPhone has been a bit of a [unusual of late] Apple balls up. It is quite bad enough not being able to use accessories when moving to a newer product but intolerable if just changing the colour of your handset! Of course, none of this will matter to new buyers - as long as they don't go buying "black" accessories.

Well, some of you know already, but through an unfortunate bought of phone-robbery last night my cracked black iPhone 4 is no more and I'm now the very happy owner of a white iPhone 4 with a blue bumper on currently.
The coloured bumpers look really nice on the white iPhone. They make the black one look bulky, but the white one 'fun' and maybe, dare I say it, 'cool'. I'm made up. Got a nice red leather slip case for when I want it to match the iPad ;)
My screen looks a bit dim and yellow (though I'm aware it can take a few weeks for that to clear, something to do with the glue?), though it's fine if I turn the brightness up more. It's a little unevenly lit along the top edge, but again if that's glue it might clear up also. This is being really picky, though - it's technically 'perfect'.
Apple opened it and activated in store as part of 'Personal Setup', and checked the device for scratches etc. The Covent Garden store were fantastic, actually, I must say. They have a massive issue with exporters queueing for the white iPhone at the moment as it's not out in all markets. I'll just say that I wasn't inconvenienced and leave it at that.
Sat next to iPad 2 they look a right pair; what is it about Apple white that's just so good?

Just found this white iPhone 4 review: http://www.tipb.com/2011/05/01/white-iphone-4-review/
Very good! Well worth a read. Interestingly it echoes some of what I said yesterday in my blog (https://talk3g.co.uk/entry.php?146-What-s-brand-new-but-11-months-old) about Apple's iPhone 4 still being one of the best smartphones on the market today, despite being announced 11 months ago! It really is quite an achievement.
