I've had rather a lot of mobile broadband devices over the years!
The manufacturers have varied, but there's one clear pattern in terms of performance in my observation and it's this: For signal and speed, go Huawei!
I know I've had a couple of Option devices (including current Vodafone Pro stick) and a ZTE from Three, and they all sucked. They somehow colluded to give mobile broadband a 'negative' feeling, whether it be through poor signal, unstable service, or bad design.
My Huawei datacard was the first big improvement I saw and that was from Vodafone, followed by my USB modem from them - that white lozenge one on a USB cable - which was simply awesome and still works well to this day. The current device I have is the MiFi, and that seems to beat everything hands down in terms of functionality and performance :)
So that's my tip. Dump your other brand of mobile broadband modem and try a Huawei for size.
