While not a fan of Windows Mobile I appreciate that the HTC HD2 is, if I believe what I've read, the best implementation of it available. Good news, then, that a miniaturised version has been produced by HTC. It has a smaller screen and slower processor, but everything else is the same. The primary concern, then, is that it will no longer have the great performance often mentioned in passages about its big brother.

Sony Ericsson X10 mini does not have a removable battery, anyone know if this has the same issue?

Hmm, I have to say my favourite thing about the HD2 is the amazing , huge screen

...For that reason alone , I'm out !

My only issue with the HTC Smart is that it is on O2, outside of that it looks like a good handset for starters.

I'm with Miffed on the HD2 - the Mini is likely to be a bit of a disappointment to those who think its just a cheaper version. The lower power CPU and smaller screen are not to be discounted.

It seems that everyone is jumping on Nokia's N97 Mini bandwagon, at least Nokia kept the hardware the same though. Selling something with a lesser CPU and calling it Mini is pretty poor form, just give it a new name or model number.

I, also, do not like this trend of "Mini" - meaning lesser - versions of mainstream handsets. I suppose we will have to see 2010/11 out before the manufacturers stop messing about like this. The punters are not 'that' stupid!

Of course they are my dear boy! ;) Aesthetics are important. While I'm sure a lot of the development work from the HD2 went into the Mini it could just as well have been given a completely new name. That it shares the HD moniker suggests to me that the HD2 was relatively successful, but didn't appeal to the broader market. This, then, could be an attempt to exploit a very limited halo effect - ride the positive reaction to the HD2 in order to give the more mainstream HD Mini a running start.
