Late to the party, but not too late I suspect, Microsoft will launch its Windows Mobile 7 operating system on Monday, reports the Wall Street Journal.
A little overdue and quite anticipated it will be interesting to see what Microsoft have decided to bestow upon its loyal mobile following, and there are a lot of those.
I am left wondering if the new mobile OS is stand alone or if it will become part of a mobile ecosystem as with several of the newer [than it] competition. Certainly, with today's all-encompassing handsets, the user will be expecting things to be more plug-and-play than ever before.
The big question is will there be an upgrade path for existing Windows Mobile users? It is unlikely to be free as in Android or iPhone OS. But will it be at a reasonable and sustainable price?
Microsoft Corp. plans to introduce long-awaited new software for powering cellphones on Monday, as the company seeks to regain a technology edge in the market against rivals like Apple Inc. and Google Inc.
At a wireless industry conference in Barcelona on Monday, the company plans to publicly show a new version of its cellphone operating system, Windows Mobile 7, for the first time, according to people familiar with the matter. The operating system sports a revamped user interface that resembles the look of Microsoft's Zune HD music player, people who have seen it said.
