Anyone notice any particularly amazing outages this year?

Can't say I noticed any problems on Vodafone 3G in Leicester Square!

On the day before New Year's eve I did notice that O2's 3G was running a lot better than usual. Connections established, data passed, it was completely odd. Not very O2 at all.

Back home it was business as usual - no 3G, very poor quality 2G/GPRS.

I can't wait to get across to Vodafone and get back to some serious mobile networking ;)

Edit: Nicky's post below reminds me - there was an SMS lag of around 54 minutes on O2 across 11pm to 1am

Im on Virgin and I had a massive backlog from 12 midnight I received 3-4 texts every few hours. It was as if -T-Mobile / Virgin were staggering the messages rather than attempt to flood their network!

Unfortunately it was probably nothing so clever; people's original messages to you will have effectively failed to deliver with a temporary error, and then their operators will have retried the messages according to the retry schedules on the SMSCs. This probably accounted for the bursts of messages you received.
