I think they are usually around the £400 mark so its definitely a good deal, I'd probably get it, if you don't like it you can sell it on for more than you paid for it. :)

it's the above that makes me think it's not worth getting, is s60 touch hard to use?

Nah not really, but probably best to try one out in your local phone store first to see if it meets your needs.

I have to be honest , the only person I've heard with good stuff to say about the N97 (either incarnation) is Steve Litchfield .

If it is something you want , then that price is good . but your best bet would be to have a play with one first .

I think Nokia have lost the plot re smartphones.

HTC, Samsung, Blackberry, Palm and LG seem to have stolen a march on Nokia in the last year or so.

Oh and there is the iPhone, overpriced of course but a groundbreaking device that has left poor Nokia in the wilderness in terms of fully featured communications devices.

Nokia better get to grips with design and fuctionality or they will soon be overtaken by Huawei and ZTE!!

S60 on the N97 and N97 Mini is not "hard to use" but it is very different to both the Android and iPhone. What you'll first notice is a distinct lack of gestures. That is not a problem if you're not used to using gestures on the touchscreen - but it will drive you nuts if you're expecting them to be there.

Apart from that the N97 Mini and its larger sibling are reasonable enough handsets. Is that N97 Mini worth £297? I don't know really. Worth is such a personal thing.

my mate from Vodafone Corporate said he hated it when he trialled it.

so I'm left looking for a new phone

I notice the HTC Hero on 3 PAYG for £360 or thereabouts ? - if you can tag an extra £70 to your budget ? Not sure how the ground lies with unlocking though
I'd love to recommend the Pulse at £137 - but I have not had my hands on mine yet , so shouldn't really , although I seriously doubt that it is possible to get more phone for that price !

I'd go for the Hero TBH , The pulse is only £137 even at "full price" , which is a bargain IMO , - but the Hero is always going to be a better handset , especially at that price !

Hero unlocks can be had - some of the eBay unlockers have accounts on the HTC official unlock servers and sell them off pretty cheap (see here --> http://shop.ebay.co.uk/?_from=R40&_trksid=p3907.m38.l1311&_nkw=htc+hero+unlock&_sacat=See-All-Categories )

I've used a Nokia 5530 for a month, and liked it so much I shelled out for a N97 mini.

Not really surprising considering I've owned:

7650
3650
Ngage
Ngage QD
6630
6680
n70
Panasonic X700
e60
6220 classic
e63

I like S60

Is the N97 Mini as buggy as the original N97 was? Or have they got the S60 sorted in the new Mini?

I would expect the N97 mini will be smoother sailing than the original N97 in terms of bugs, I haven't personally used one though so can't confirm. I did however just update my 5800 to version 40 firmware, and they have finally added kinetic scroll and the 5530 home screen among other things, overall its actually quite pleasant to use now.

Did Nokia ever get Kinetic scroll in to their N97? I saw it previewed back in Nov, possibly earlier, but it didn't come out before my mate jettisoned his for a fruity-phone :D

N97 mini had kinetic scrolling since launch

N97 got it in V2.0

5530 had it since launch

5800 got it in v4.0
