Ok, so i have read in a few places that o2 will unlock the iphone from 10/11/09.. But im having a few problems with o2, im trying to finish my contract early and move to Orange, this is purely for coverage issues only, now o2 are telling me (by more then on advisor) that because my iphone was purchased while it was an o2 exclusive then o2 are not allowed to unlock it, any iphone purchased from 10/11/09 will be able to get unlocked?? WTF... They also told me that if i do get the iphone unlocked by a third party (the advisor telling me thats the only way it can be unlocked) then the internet and apple store will not work, i have version 3.1.2 on my phone, only because my iphone broke a week ago and apple replaced it with a refurb with that firmware on, so now if i leave o2 im left with a very expensive ipod touch!!! Not happy right now!!!

Thats a load of rubbish, and CSRs wont know what to do until the unlocking actually starts.

The latest rumblings are that handsets will be unlocked by O2 after 12 months, but we wont know for sure until it actually starts.

For now, just gotta sit tight and wait.

Ok, so now that we know when and how much Orange are going to charge for the iPhone, it should only be a matter of time until we see an official unlock solution.

Until such time we will have to use blackra1n (http://blackra1n.com/)! I'm sure the folks behind the dev team (http://blog.iphone-dev.org/) will be releasing something soon as well but George Hotz is releasing his unlock on the 4th of November. Find out more on his official blog (http://iphonejtag.blogspot.com/).

This should jailbreak and unlock all versions of the iPhone.
