Amazingly this works for me over 3G.

Disclaimer: the iPhone is plugged in which gives it a miraculous signal boost, and I'm not moving around, and I'm upstairs in my house at the front.

Gotta say its a handy feature to kill time. Unfortunately its no good for the train trip to uni say, but when your stood in one place with 3G or wifi its a really good quality.
