View Full Version : Beware 3 Retention Calls

I have just terminated my 3 Contract Mobile Broadband (£5/month) 1GB service as I don't really use it much. It's only £60 a year but I got a Vodafone PAYG Dongle for £20 inc £15 top-up and I reckon that 1GB allowance will more than last 6 months as it's only for emergencies when my work network is down or when I'm sitting at airports.

Got a call from 3 last week and it was really annoying. The (indian) rep was insistant on sending me out a new 'faster' dongle that i would just pay the same for each month. No mention of a new contractual agreement and false information as the dongle offered was nothing better than one I already have. The CSR did not listen to a single work I stated and attempted to proceed to arrange a delivery. Only when I told her that I would treat anything sent out as unsolicited goods did she back off and ask why i was leaving. She then offered to convert the 3 dongle to PAYG at £10 a month which was MORE than I was paying on a contract!!

After getting somewhat angry, having had exactly the same nonsense when terminating my mobile, she gave up and provided the disconnection details.

What a performance. Badly trained staff who know little or nothing about what is available on the market in the UK and who simply have no idea how to relate products to customer needs.

Thak goodness I'll be shot of 3 come the end of the month.

A bad retentions call really does reflect poorly on a company. I had one from Scottish Power recently.

Still, who can blame Three for trying - every subscriber counts for them! Still unacceptable behaviour, but we can all understand why they're doing it.

Sad thing Ben is in most cases its not the network. Its the crap CS that makes ppl want to leave and phoning up and cumming out with that crap no helps.

In my case I left three after they stoped like home, thought I had paid my final bill of £11 and cancelled my DD two months after the last bill should of been paid, they phoned my house asking for payment which is fine but then had the cheek to ask me for the mobile number and password, to wich I replied I dont have a mobile with you and as your phoned me you should know what it is. Think I confused them with that, after all how was I to check they were from three?

Its not the issue of paying £11 which will be paid its just their tone etc and we are always advised never to give out your password to a col caller, they could not even tel me the mobile or account no ffs

.

I have 3 Mobile BB - I have about a month to go before I can leave. I was thinking of going down the VF PAYG route myself. Like you, my usage is minimal. Where did you get the VF PAYG Dongle for £20? :-)

Interesting - can you get the VF mobile broadband SIM only without dongle? The reason for asking is that I have a few of those unlocked O2 USB dongles that will take any SIM :D The £15 for 1GB indefinte life would suit my daughter who is in Uni ... O2's only lasts a month and then expires.

There were some on E-Bay for £17.50 inc the £15 Top-Up.

I got mine from Amazon but it's back up to £29.99 now.

You can unlock all of those Huewai dongles for about £3.50 via an e-bay IMEI code. The nice vendor even supplies the software free to allow you to access the SP Lock. Handy!!

So you can use any dongle on any network now although to make life easy you would need the firmware for the Mob Op you choose. I am pretty sure you could easily get the software either on the net or by simply copying it from another dongle.

The Mobile Operator's "Connect" software is a gimmick. As long as you can find out the dial-string and connection settings (easily obtained from Filesaveas.com) you can set up the Windows, Mac or Linux connection yourself.
