I updated my iphone3g from 3.01 to 3.1 and my capacity was 6.8gb, i did a restore the other day trying to resolve battery issues and the capacity is now 7.08gb, what did the restore clear up?

How odd. I suppose either temporary/backup files from the upgrade, or just caches and temporary files from normal usage were removed.
