iChrisTaylor (http://twitter.com/iChrisTaylor) tweeted one of O2's text messages pushing iPhone users to make use of the handset's WiFi capabilities both when at home and out and about. The motivation for this would appear to be that they want to reduce the load on their network.

I've just taken a look at the Cellular Network Data usage on my iPhone 3GS. I've got 32MB sent, and 105MB received - Last Reset: Never.

This is a shockingly small amount of data considering how much I use my iPhone and the unlimited data plan!

Therefore the vast majority of my data usage is going over WiFi.

If iPhone users collectively disabled WiFi, would O2's data network crumble? Perhaps we should set up a "No WiFi" day to find out ;)

I have sent 26.7 MB and received 262 MB this month. I reset on the date of my bill and I like to have some idea of my usage.
I don't use data that much, but when I do it's streaming radio (which doesn't use that much, maybe 30MB an hour). If O2 had a better network I'd stream in the car!

Here is a link to the page Ben refers to: http://shop.o2.co.uk/update/wifi.html

would O2's data network crumble?
It already crumbles :p some say their network flows over twitter's servers :D

I always forget about the included wifi.

I've switched my WiFi off. I'm going to try and survive on just O2's data network for a while.

I'm already finding it to be flaky! But I'm determined to show them some real data use =D
