Me , Miffed, on Talk3G , using 3 mobile broadband on his e220 rather than T-mobile on the e160 ? ....With my reputation ?

Well , yes I am , and TBH it is working alarmingly well !!

I have been using the aforementioned E160/ T-mobile combination for most of the day , and it was working quite well , a little slow in places though.

Then we discover that Sky will be unable to even take my order for Broadband untill 5 days AFTER fitting my phone line, .....which in turn they cannot do until 10 days (at least) after fitting the TV ....which they can't do until Friday ! - so I am looking at Months by the sound of it !

Now , on hearing this news , I decided we needed to sort number II daughter out with a little internet access , so I dug the E220 out ... Now last time I used it , the performance was nothing short of diabolical .
What a pleasant surprise ! , I am getting around 1.5MB - and it feels like a domestic BB line !!
The only thing I am doing differently (can't bring myself to believe 3 have consciously "solved" anything ! ) .. is that I am using the O2 connection manager that came with the E160 , rather than simply putting the details into the mac manually .
Made a point of looking at the "problem" sites that caused me trouble before , and all is fine. As said , it is just like a domestic BB connection .

Must say I am very pleasantly surprised !

LOL - I am going to have to quote you here mate https://talk3g.co.uk/showpost.php?p=34136&postcount=22 :D

Good luck with 3 + E220 + Macbook Air, its made my blood run cold already ;)

The Sky thing will sort itself out, generally. They've not singled you out Mr Paranoia

I'm not really surprised at 3's mobile broadband performance - but I am completely mistrustful of them for all of the usual reasons. As a stopgap they worked beautifully well for my lad when he moved home and had to wait for BT to do their stuff. But as you well know, my own personal experience shortly after was nothing short of disasterous - and that is with two 3 transmitters co-located within 100m of each other and not more than 200m from the front door of my house.

All I can put it down to is that one of the transmitters was HSPA faulty or not working along its backhaul for the results I was getting. Any other operator and I would have called it in - but I could not bring myself with dealing with their Mumbai Monkeys ever again.

I am pleased that it is working for you - always nice to have something to bail you out of such a situation. Are you using PAYG or contract?

LOL , Well it was only that I had the E220 laying around ! , I wouldn't have gone and spent good money on one !!
It is PAYG , which brings me to another point - Now , Keep in mind I used an old SIM running "Mates Rates" rather than the proper Mobile BB SIM that came with it
I topped it up with £20 last night , this has given me

3GB of Mobile Broadband (for which it deducted £15
Unlimited 3-3 minutes
150MB of free internet (handset I ssume)
1000 SMS

Plus I have £5 of the credit left , I assume , had I not activated the £15 broadband offer , I'd have my £20 still and all the freebies

Lets forget its 3 for a moment ...... Pretty good value eh ?

Realistically , I am expecting this all to end in tears sooner rather than later !
