The HTC Magic is certainly an attractive handset and, equipped with Google Android, represents one of the two best touchscreen handsets currently in production - for this comparison I ignore any handsets with mechanical keyboards.

So it is no surprise that sales of the handset are doing well, and that is even before they enter the US market.

HTC are poised to ship their 1 millionth HTC Magic handset in the next couple of months according to its chief executive officer.

Despite the global recession, HTC chief executive officer Peter Chou says that "the sales of HTC Magic look good", and that shipments of the HTC Magic Android phone may hit 1 million units "within one or two months".

"The progress is better than most analysts’ expectations as some thought it would take at least five months for HTC to sell 1 million HTC Magic phones," said Lu Chia-lin, an analyst with Macquarie Research.

The HTC Magic will be launching in the US shortly as the myTouch 3G.

HTC are expected to announce yet more Android powered handsets next week.

That last bit of news is interesting and shows HTC's commitment to the new OS to which they are, by now, getting to be experts. Their confidence in Google Android is certainly beginning to show.

Make that 1,000,001 (got mine this morning :D ) - I waited in for as long as I could then left for work at 9.40am - By the time I got here (work) there was a message from my wife (9.44am) saying it had just arrived !! , I can't touch it till 4.30pm :(

I have always liked HTC's stuff , and I always did like the the WM OS's - at one time these handsets were (IMO) light years ahead of anything else in terms of capability - but were far too complicated and quirky to attract the mainstream
Things have moved on for everyone involved except MS, and had it not been for HTC layering their own software over the top of MS's "same ol , same ol " then these devices would have died off completely , I think the natural evolution is for HTC to cut their ties with MS and move over to Android totally .
Maybe this will give MS the kick up the backside they need & they'll develop a "zune phone" OS or something - or maybe they'll just give up ?

HTC are a very enthusiastic company IMO and I think they did their best to drag WM into the 21st century but its now time to call it a day and move on to something better.

I can't wait for your early impressions of the HTC Magic. I'm finding that the cavernous gap between Google Android and iPhone OS X has narrowed considerably with the latter's 3.0 firmware update. That will all change again when Google Android 2.0 (Donut) comes out later this year with a greater multimedia capability among other improvements.

Really, these two brands are most definitely the ones to beat at this time.
