Now that firmware 3.0 has finally landed it is time to give it a serious look at and comment.

What are your likes and dislikes so far? Does anything in particular strike you as interesting, useful or downright dull and worthless?

I have only had the firmware running for the past 20 minutes or so and have had a brief fiddle around. But already I am vastly happier with what the iPhone now does than a few minutes ago :)

For me, the highlights so far are;

Find My iPhone - using Mobile Me to locate your iPhone anywhere on the planet - send it a message to the screen - remote wipe the handset if necessary
SMS forwarding - now, finally, I can re-join the modern day phenomon of viral joke distribution :)
MMS - excellent, very intuitive to use, works a lot like on Google Android :D
Spotlight - the ability to search across the entire handset, perfect in use

I like the landscape aspect for many of the apps now. I went to a meeting the other day and just used the iPhone to take notes. Worked surprisingly well and I was able to email the note to myself for editing in Word later on. No longer will I carry a notepad.

I can confirm remote wipe works! I've tried it, almost instantly the iPhone received the "request" from MobileMe.

Rebooted and stayed on the Apple logo for about 2 hours - I was a little worried actually. It did say "up to 2 hours" on the MobileMe web site..

So another success of 3.0 - Just got to restore again.

I like the orientation in SMS and my MMS is working properly, that's good. Cut copy paste etc, all good. My main issue are apps... Skype app is incompatible with 3.0, and Facebook app won't let me take a picture from within the app itself, which I could do before... so that's my only gripe, the apps being buggy, and on fairly major named ones. C'mon, you've had months to ensure there were no problems!

Can anyone confirm what version number they have with the official 3.0, mine is 3.0(7A341) but mines the GM version. And if its any different has anyone got a link to a direct download?

I've got the official install this evening - it is 3.0 (7A341)

Modem firmware is 04.26.08

Hmmmm, interesting... I was under the impression that we would have to update from the GM version...

Thanks - I'm having a bit of a ball getting to know my new iPhone :D

There was a lot of FUD spread around about the GM version. It seems to have come out in the wash though.
