Tried to call using my Nokia 7600 on 3 on Friday and got a strange on-screen message telling me that the network could not connect the call. Not a one-off, several times in a full signal area. Needless to say the usual 3 thing was happening, full signal one minute - nothing the next, but that aside the error message kept displaying.

Called 333 (3 customer services) and got a nice Asian chap who knew exactly what I was calling about and he suggested re-booting the handset.... tried that I told him.... "OK" he said, "Go to your menu and select networks and set it to manual than select 3 2G, that should solve the problem".

I could not be bothered with an argument, we all know you cant lock a 3 mobile to 2G (02's network) unless it has been unlocked etc.... so why is the Mumbai call centre providing such misleading information to 3 customers?

Utterly astonishing that this sort of tripe is still being provided as advice when 3 UK currently have a 60% churn rate..... no wonder!

Sounds like a BTS problem. Would probably be picked up because the site won't be handling any calls & restarted. Is it fixed now?

I dont think it was that as I was travelling and this was happening over about a 5 mile radius in a built up city area so there would have to have been more than one BTS outage.

I'm not sure how things are in that area now but I have had similar problems over the holiday weekend (1st call today failed). Gonna use my SE T68i the rest of the day and will try 3 again tomorrow.

It must be all that rain you guys get up there :) It does appear to always be pis^H^H^H persistently pouring there on the weather news! I do remember One2One having terrible troubles around water - no service near the Thames [allegedly] because of reflection of the signal off the water (don't beat me up, thats what their corporate told us!!).

I have never had a single problem placing a call in my area since they launched (plenty when I moved about in the early days though). Since I re-implanted myself with a 3 handset (Threepay and then Contract) I have had very reliable call service and quality in my area of operation, north Kent area. In London, on the occasional visit, call quality and availability was highly variable and almost constantly flipped between 3G and 2.5G.
