Well, I'll be in Spain next week so I called O2 to see exactly how much it's going to hurt me in my pocket.

As an iPhone customer I get reduced roaming rates. Funny how they're exactly the same as those capped by the EU! *rolls eyes*

For data, it's £3 a meg. That makes me a sad panda. I've paid £50 for a 50 meg bundle to help take the sting out of it, so I'll obviously have to be very careful with what my iPhone gets up to! The bundle is bloody pro-rata, too, so I don't actually get the full 50 megs.

Why so miffed? It's O2! I'll be on Movistar the whole time, costing them bugger all! Pathetic.

If your going to be recieving calls while your there it maybe worth while adding chosen country Spain for a month, it costs £5 and gives you unlimited free incoming calls, as for data I always use free wifi spots, never normally have problems finding any, some charge too but it's always far cheaper then roaming data rates!

Thank you, yes, I might add that as well just to be on the safe side!

As you know I was in Spain the other day, I took Vodafone, T-Mobile and O2 of which O2 was never used.

If it was video calling not working on 1 network its data not on the other so i stuck with T-Mobile for data and Vodafone for voice/text

Added chosen country Spain now, apparently it includes calls left on voicemail so that's one less thing to worry about (I want to leave my voicemail on!)

£55 so far just to go to Spain for a week and I haven't even left yet.

Im going to Majorca on Sunday night for a week and I've had the same problem as you, re data roaming!

Its a complete disgrace that we are subject to these horrendous data roaming charges!! Especially when the likes of Vodafone are scrapping roaming charges for the summer!

O2 have just lost some valuable points in my view!

Looks at the HTC Magic with background processing and no roaming charges. :(

Cant you just get a PYG sim card out there to access Internet etc.

As for Vodafone they may of been the first to scrap roaming but lets not forget its only for three months and if the news item is correct:
http://business.timesonline.co.uk/tol/business/industry_sectors/telecoms/article6289765.ece A part hightlighted below:

Vodafone added, however, that after its three-month offer expired customers would remain on the Passport scheme and pay 75p to be connected when calling from abroad, before being charged at their normal call rate.

So in short after this you still be screwed by them into paying 75p before being allowed to use your incl mins etc. Whats changed F@@K all from I can see a network hiting the headlines and forgetting to point out the small print while screwing the users again

@Solo12002 As far as im aware, an O2 Pay & Go simcard wouldnt work in a locked iPhone ? Maybe im wrong?

@Bleubean - Oh yes it will :)

But to be most cost effective you need to get a PAYG that is specifically for the iPhone to get the advantage of unlimited 3G data and WiFi for 12 months.

Superb value can be had on eBay - see this (http://shop.ebay.co.uk/items/?_nkw=o2+iphone+sim+card&_sacat=0&_trksid=p3286.m270.l1311&_odkw=iphone+sim+card&_osacat=0). Some of these deals come with £10 calling credit on the card too!

Does it? I've always been charged for left voicemails with Chosen Month Spain, who told you that anyway? ASAIK when a voicemails left its a call back to the UK so chargeable, i know retrieving voicemails while there is free!

No, not the data it doesn't. You would be able to take it abroad to make voice calls and send SMS etc. But you'd probably want to buy a bolt-on if such is available on O2 PAYG (I'm not entirely sure of that).

They did :/ They went away and checked. I guess I'll find out the hard way.

I hate 'Customer Service' operations. I'd much rather be able to do these add-ons online, but there's nowhere in my online account to add/change them.
