You only geting your own back on me now! lol.

I live in Northern Ireland and this was a god send when I was close to a South Ireland cell or even in the South of Ireland. Ive used home like home about 5 times while in the south and I used it in Itlay last year.

The lord given and the lord taken away, three had the best roaming charges there was 25 out going and 15 in, this went up this year to 35 p and I think 19 p, due to the weak pound three claimed.

In the week three have been so full of S@@T that they offering free skype calls for ever, we now get hiot with the pay back or will three blame this on the EU Ruling.

I really love to see what these charges are, but its still costing me more with the scraping of home like home

Either way I will likely go the O2 sim only route with free Ireland bolt on, I think this is good enought for me to get out of my contract which is due to end end of July plus 30 days notice.

So the question is, is 3 Like Home an “additional service”? 3 will no doubt argue it is, because they don’t want you going anywhere. We’d disagree, for three reasons:

if you make regular use of 3 Like Home, there will be no way to receive the same service without your bill increasingly significantly
like other aspects of your contract, you don’t pay extra for 3 Like Home (on top of your monthly contracted rate) yet it can have a dramatic effect on your billing - it’s an inclusive service rather than an additional one
if you read through the terms and conditions for 3 Like Home, there’s no mention of it being a service in addition to your contract; indeed, the text states that this service is entirely dependent on your minutes and SMS allowance - again, it’s inclusive rather than additional

Hhmm, thats a good point, although, ever since 3likehome has been running as a "promotional offer" it has always had an end date of 30th of June, so therefore 3 could argue that if you joined the network for that reason, you should see that this offer ended on that date, and therefore you shouldnt have signed up to the contract if you relied on that service after the 30th of June.

"ever since 3likehome has been running as a "promotional offer" it has always had an end date of 30th of June"

Im am in the last three months of an 18 month contarct when I signed up Im dam sure it never sain "Promotional Office" and at no time it never said it would end on the 30th June 2009.

I think this was put there after the whole thing about EU Roaming costs, so while the new users may have to accept it as it was in their T & C of contacr , It was not in mine. Whats even more insulting is for now its remaining on three Ireland, so in affect I can cross the board take out a contact and use home like home in the North!

Well, I agree, thats also goodbye from me and the rest of the family. I used 3 like home whilst in S Ireland (phone and data) and my daughter works in the South and was one of the main reasons for choosing 3.
I read my contract and there was never any mention of a termination date. In fairness, it does say that the "3 like home" could be withdrwan with suitable notce.

Had 3 (sic!) goods years on the scheme but now need to look eleswhere - -maybe things will change quite a lot with all the networks over the comming months.

I got a text today from 3 Mobile stating that the "3 like home" service is being scrapped on the 30th of June. For those who don't know, 3 like home is the service that allows you to use your inclusive minutes/text/data overseas as long as you're connected to a 3 network.
In this text, there's a (free) web link, clicking on it reveals at the bottom:

" Finally because of the 3 Like Home change, it's only fair that we point out your right to end your contract with us, without paying an early cancellation fee. However we very much hope it won't come to that because we still believe we offer great value rates and great coverage. "

solo12002

Ok Ive not got a text yet, but reading some of the fourms ppl are spending up to 40 mins on the phone trying to cancel so im putting it in writing to them tomorrow.

Some talk around the fourms that three Itlay may have the new prices on line. Follow the link if it works:

http://babelfish.yahoo.com/translate_url?doit=done&tt=url&intl=1&fr=bf-home&trurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.tre.it%2Fpublic%2FEstero_co me_a_casa.php&lp=it_en&btnTrUrl=Translate

If not I take it to be;

SMS National Rate
MMS National Rate
making a call 0.5€ plus National Rate
Received a call 0.5 no matter how long

So whats your options folks? I note no information about data if indeed theses are the ew prices they do refer to like home untill June then the above prices from July

Reports on other forums confirm that if you are firm and insistant you can use the 'detrimental to your contract' clause to be released from your 3 commitment due to the removal of 3 like home. They will offer £10 a month off the existing contract deal but if you insist on a PAC code it will be provided.

So if you need a release from 3 now is the time to use the get out clause because after 30 days it is deemed that you have accepted the new terms.

Oh Im runing two letters in the post to cancel my mobile BB and phone contracts with them.

I have use the mobile BB in dublin it was great apart from that i dint use it often enoughtand had a few problems with telling me the sim was missing. I think Ill save more using a PAYG one.

As for the mobile used it in Dublin and Itlay it saved me a few bob and was a god send, but CS is CRAP and scraping like home will now cost me a few bob, so yes Im off.

Likely go for an o2 30 day sim to leave my options open, with 600 mins, 1200 texts , free voicemail and internet at £20 its no bad and run on costs are 20p to any net work /numbers after that.

Just call up and say because they have changed the T&C you want your PAC code now. If they say they cant or refuse say you want to speak to a manager and wont end the call until this happens.

Either you will be put through right away or within 1hr get a call back with your PAC code.

That is what I have been people reporting.

Be prepared for 333 to say first of all you cant cancel or cant speak to a manager, you need to be tough and direct that because they changed the T&C you can and will cancel now, and if they dont you want a manager who will.

99% of the time the 'threat' of a manager will spring them into action

The fundamental issue is that 3 have introduced a "material change" into their contract, and one that disadvantages your financially. It is these material changes that create the get-out opportunity, but they are time-limited.

Just a comment and I may be wrong. Get out of three while you can. I have a feeling that you have 30 days to get out of your contract after being advised of the change to them. Not 30 days after they come in or the day they start.

Someone correct me if Im wrong but if you have been informed of the change and then wait to find out what roaming rates are on 30th June, Three will claim you missed the 30 days dead line.

Hands0n
28th May 2009, 09:12 PM
@solo12002 - you're all about right with all of that.

The 30 days starts from the moment you're advised. It is not good enough for 3 to say that they'd posted it on their website for all to see. It is a "material contract change" and they are obliged to tell you individually. Then their 30-day clock can start ticking.

If you miss the 30-day deadline it is a "tacit" acceptance (understood without being openly expressed; implied: tacit approval) of the contract changes. Tacit consent is "consent by silence" i.e. say nothing and you agree.

I agree. I wrote to three making it very clear to cancel my mobile BB contract due to the removel of like home. First the B@@@@@@S had the cheek to phone my home, spoke to my borther who told them to cancel it as its what i stated.

Been away two days to fine I have a letter from them asking me to phone them on a number at 15p a min, what part of cancel do these B@@@@@@S dont understand.

So like evryone else it looks as if Im going to have to spend an hour plus fighting with them to leave. Boy they have really have pissed me off. If this is the action they have taken when i have wrote to cancel my mobile Bb, I wait to see what they do to cancel my mobile to as it was put in writting.

solo12002
31st May 2009, 08:27 PM
Ok heres my story. Like everyone else, I am P off with the removel of like home even more so as Im from Northern Ireland and can hit a Three Ireland cell when Im close to the border event more so when I can travel the 50 miles to dundalk and pay a three PAYG mobile and use it in the UK including NI with like home on it as its only being removed from UK network at this stage.

I have heard all the stories on here of others phoning three to cancel and being on the phone for ages. I decided to write to three and ask for both my Mobile and BB to be cancellled in line with 10.1d of the T & C. Firstly they phone the house while I was at work and confused a 71 year old. Then they wrote to me advising me to phone them.

I decided to phone to day as I was very much aware that if I left it to late I would end up staying the network. I phoned this afternoon and spoke to one of the india CS staff, advised hime that I wanted to end my contract, he rightly pointed out that it was vaild untill 17th August this year, I agree and advised him that I was cancelling it due to removing of like home. At this point he bacame a three sales person. Mr x I have checked you bill you pay this on time every time etc, then it was I see you dont use all of your mins and texts, I was nice to hime and advised him I wanted contact to close.

Then the offers came, first it was I see you are on mix and match 100, and I note you only use 50 mins and or text per month ( Work Mobile I tend to use) I can drop your line rental to £14 a month as you are a very good pay'er (ZZZZZZZZZZZZ) No I wish contract to end, I can also give you a new mobile worth £250 pounds, then the sliped up and said as you dont use an lot that will give you 300 mins or texts and 300 3 to 3 calls. Now call me an ass, ( No Handson dont say it! ) but I could really get this direct on the web so in fact he was not doing me any good turn. He also advise that he would credit my account with £20 pounds. again I stated I wanted contract to end, the £14 pounds then droped to £8 pounds, dint ask the details, but im sure it would of been keep your phone. No matter what it would of tied me into another 18 months Im sure, so at the end of it some 30 mins later, my last bill is due at the end of June, I have to phone up again to cancel my Mobile BB as despect talking all the details. I had to phone 500.

Call two to 500 and I died thought I was in haven I spoke to an English guy, informed him that I wanted to cancel my mobile Bb contract ,I was asked why advise him that it was due to removel of like home, and the fact that three took away with one hand and tell us with the other what was replacing it. Even then I was offered to switch from contract to PAYG.

To be fair to the guy I was offered a cut price of £5 on the BB and that he would block roaming allowing me to use it in NI and rest of UK but not Ireland. I again advise him that I wanted to cancel, at which point the guy more of less said I cant blame you and advise that ppl from NI are cancelling like mad. So up shot is Im free from three at end of June.

Have just ordered three vodafone PAYG sim cards to try over the summer due to the chearper roaming, but likely will go with o2, 30 day sim as it includes freevoice mail and internet at £20 were vodafones does not.

I have found the three network to be fine, a few droped calls and I think you have to be fair and expect that from anynet work. But for me a few things made me leave.

CS staff based in India, who appear to be able to read from a scrip but cant think outside of the box and help ppl.
Problems with email on three that took them 6 weeks to resolve, and 6 hours plus from me even when I pointed out the answer to solve it taken from this fourm.
A second email issue which was reported to them, and rather than speak to me on my mobile phoned my mother house and its still not fixed.
The increase roaming charges this year from 25p to 34 p and the euro gets the blame.

Lastly removing like three, and not advising us the users what the new charges will be, if they done that ppl would have more information and enabled to judge and to cap it off the very fact that from 1 July I cant access like three in UK, however I can drive 50 miles buy a mobile on three Ireland and use it here in the North on three like home, which makes a joke of it all.

Like others on here my advice is the network is good, the CS is crap and while it is keep away from them unless you go PAYG then you can bin it and walk away.

Now we all know that three scored an own goal pulling like home. Very much so for those of us who live in Northern Ireland.

Now what have they done?

"Roaming in Ireland

We'll soon be introducing our promotional ROI (Republic of Ireland) roaming rates for when you're roaming on our 3 Ireland network. Our ROI 10p offer starts on 30th June 2009, giving you a 10p flat rate on 3 Ireland for calls and texts to the UK, and 10p per MB for internet usage (whether you're browsing on your mobile or with your Mobile Broadband dongle). Calls cost 10p per minute to receive and it's free to receive a text. This offer is only available for a limited time and will end on 31st of Jan 2010."

http://www.three.co.uk/Help_Support/International/EU_Roaming

So a few things. One they have had so many leaving three North and South of Ireland they had to do something, however why dint they tell ppl that when they phoned up to cancel.

And after the cock on claiming like home was a temp thing, this offer will only last untill Jan 10. What a joke

Extraordinary corporate behavior.

Phoned CS today, my contract has another 11 months to go.
I went for the "loyalty discount" of £10 per month until the end of contract
Saves me £110 over the remaining period.
I will go and buy a PAYG modem for use when in South Ireland - about €79 but I am only an occasional user whilst in S Ireland.(anyone got a spare data sim for 3 as I don't really need the modem)
I may even consider meteor if they extend coverage to Wexford area in the not too distant future.
Shame really, I really liked the 3 like home feature. As for the Skype option they are currently flogging, as far as I am concerned it's a BIG mistake.

@Paulbds - you don't really need a 3 "data SIM" - all you do is top up as normal as for voice, then convert the top up to a Mobile Broadband "Add On" using their website. You can convert almost any amount of credit on a PAYG to Mobile Broadband "Add on" in £10 increments ...

If you buy a USB modem on Pay As You Go, you will need to first top up and then convert your Top-up to a Mobile Broadband Add-on to get your great value monthly data allowance.

Edit: Here's the full scoop;

Converting your Top-up to a Mobile Broadband Add-on

Your broadband service will still work if you don’t convert your Top-up, but it’s a lot more expensive (£1 per Mb). So to get the most out of your Top-up, you must convert it to an Add-on.

If you bought a Top-up voucher instore you need to activate and convert it online on My3. Go to www.three.co.uk/My3, then:

Click on Activate your voucher now.
Enter the 16-digit PIN number (the one in the middle of your voucher), followed by your 3 mobile number – keep a note of it, it’s shown on the card that came with your SIM. You can also find it on your dashboard.
Convert your Top-up to an Add-on by selecting the Add-on you’d like from the dropdown list below.

If you top up using your registered card, you need to follow up by converting your Top-up to a Mobile Broadband Add-on. To do this you should connect to the internet using your modem and then go to My3. To do this follow these steps:

Click on the My3 account tab on your connection dashboard, then select “Go to My3”; or enter www.three.co.uk/my3 into your browser.
An “Activate your Top-up” page will then open.
Select “Do you want to go to My3”.
If you need to top up your account do this next.
As you’ve already registered a card, you can buy more Top-ups anytime on My3.
Next convert your Top-up to a Mobile Broadband Add-on (if you don't, you will be charged £1 per MB).
Select “Buy Add-ons”.
You’ll see your account details – select Buy now, and then choose the Add-on you want.
Select one of our Mobile Broadband Add-ons (not an Internet Add-on).
On the shopping cart screen, click on Buy now.

Once your credit runs out, you won't be able to browse the internet. The only page you will be able to view is three.co.uk
You will need to top up and convert your credit to a Mobile Broadband Add-on before you can browse again.
