Just an update on current Vodafone 3G Broadband performance for me. Poor signal (relatively), using VPN.

--- bbc.co.uk ping statistics ---
50387 packets transmitted, 50387 packets received, 0% packet loss
round-trip min/avg/max/stddev = 109.499/172.327/1024.092/30.609 ms

Massive ping test there. I'm actually shocked there isn't a single packet lost - that's really very good. Latency, as always, should be better.

Speed tests were a little varied - both over 1mbps, so not bad, but I'd still like to be seeing better speeds by now. General browsing is excellent, though again I'm on the VPN.

It is a great testament to Vodafone that they managed to handle without loss every single packet over the period of time you rant the tests.

Latency is always a bit of an issue with mobile network operators, the ping times remind me of the days when I managed international leased lines for a Bank. Those going to Hong Kong didn't take quite as long as you're seeing on Vodafone :D So there has to be some real funkydoodle routing and packet handling going on in the Vodafone network.

Why? Because I wanted to see how a tethered LG Viewty connection would work with Vodafone. The Viewty is supposed to be an HSDPA handset and so I would expect reasonable results ...

Using Speedtest.net gave the following - not very good but then again Speedtest.net does not work very well to mobile connections.

And so it was off to another favourite of mine ... mobilespeedtest.com
This gave an altogether much more realistic result of 3Mbps using a 1MB block of data:

Pretty much what to expect outside of London or other major towns and cities where Vodafone have up to 7.2Mbps services on the go.
