a copy of the Hands0n thread really, i have 5 months on 3 or a E71 i had (and sold on). I used the contract once to text someone saying i got the phone and that was it, the SIM was cut in 2 about 3 months ago and thrown away.

Now we all know 3CS can be.... well... awkward at times but recently when trying to cancel early i heard it all!.

When asked why i wanted to cancel i said i have a T-Mobile staff phone as i work for them. never use the 3 number and no one has it so i just want to pay it now as i had a good bonus and free up a line of credit.

The guy on the phone then starts yapping away for 5 mins not letting me get a word in saying 'that is a good deal you have from work, i wish i had that but i would still keep your 3 contract running because with a work phone you have no privacy, you will always get calls from work and your calls get screened and checked so you have no privacy at all....'

When i tried to get a word in he just talked over me not paying any attention. Finally after about 5 mins of listening i said i just want to cancel now and pay the early termination fee but yet again he starts talking about he REALLY thinks i need to keep it running and see what upgrade options i have coming up in 4 months time.... urm why when i want to CANCEL!.

He would not have any of it and after 35 mins i just hung up. Called back later on and spoke to someone else and explained right at the start why i wanted to cancel, i dont want any offers, i said what deal i already have with T-Mobile and please can they just take my notice to leave!.

This guy was not as bas as the first but said well hold on il try to save you money, i can transfer you onto a £9 contract right now ok so you will save money every month, then when your contract is up you can decide what you want to do.

Bare in mind im on a 12 month contract and the £9 one is 18 months which mean if i accepted i would have just EXTENDED my contract by 6 months but he did not tell me that, i expect i would find that out in 5 months when i call to cancel to be told i STILL have 6 months left.

I said no thanks i just want to cancel. "But im trying to save you some money so i can put you on that plan now and you will be better off, then if you dont want the phone just put it in the draw".

My reply was "i dont want to save money i want to spend money, please take the ETF from me now and process my 30 days notice please"

FINALLY THRY GAVE IN!!.

I paid £150 to cancel and my contract ends on 27th Feb 09. I called back to get an unlock code as i already sold the phone on and actually that was a good call, the person took the IMEI and put me on hold, came back a few minutes later and explained the process and the code.

Funny how the best call to 3 was the last one to unlock a phone to move away from their network.

So if you are thinking of joining 3.... DONT!. I have been a customer twice and worked for the company and although the deal might sound good the customer service experience is shocking

As i say now... calling 333 is free, but calling a good customer service is priceless!.

From the horses mouth, as so to speak. Interesting observations!

I have been a customer twice and worked for the company and although the deal might sound good the customer service experience is shocking.

It truly is and is the one single reason that I would never, ever, trust my custom with 3 again. Hell, they even gave me two Skypephones to play with and when one went wrong 3's CS made absolutely sure that I would not countenance their service.

If there is one thing you can rely on 3 for, it is to cock up the relationship at the first opportunity. They are masters at the art of snatching defeat from the hands of success.

I can 100000000000000000% confirm i will NEVER be back on 3. I would rather set up my own network with cups and string before going back to them.

After being a customer and working for them you see things from inside and out which to be honest is the same view

Thing is 3 are simple to fix:

1) Get UK call centers
2) Get UK staff
3) Get some more phones.

Job done!. Now don't get me wrong i don't have anything against the people at the call centers personally, everyone has to earn a living, but when there is such a BIG communications gap between a customer and someone who has access to your account trying to make them understand what your asking is a hard job when it does not need to be.

Then again, getting through to customer service within about 1 minute with 3 is nice, unlike the 1hr 30mins i was on hold with Vodafone yesterday for my PAC code which i still did not get as i never spoke to anyone, i hung up after that time!

What about the reason why I and many others leave because?

Call dropping..... the 3 service is not robust and voice calls cant transfer from 3 to their roaming partner (Orange) without dropping. Others have both 3G and GSM and there is no need for roaming so calls can be continued when 3G fragile coverage cant cope.

Hutchison Whampoa will bail out of the UK as soon as they can, There is no hope of them ever gaining profit or even a fraction of their investment with 3 UK.
