View Full Version : New to Three and not very happy

I just received my new Three sim and so far the Three experience has been nothing but trouble:

1. Cant get hold of customer services - as a Payasugo user I dialled 444 but only get options to topup or review tariff info, no option to actually speak to anyone.

2. Registered a debit card - I cant believe they need 7 days to do this.

3. The Three website seems to be completely setup for their own handsets and if you haven't got one of them, they don't even give the settings so you can setup yourself.

After a bit of searching the net I got the settings:
APN three.co.uk
user none
password none

So I can now get on planet 3 (so the data settings are obviously correct) but I cant get to any other websites or retrieve my email.

Looks to me like Three are blocking internet access for me for some reason. It's as if I am barred because of no credit.

Calling Three customer services was a waste of time - no three handset - no support - no refunds.

I think if Three don't provide internet to 3rd party handsets then they should clearly state this and stop selling sims.

I have used internet internet access on this handset with all other uk mobile ops (Vodafone, O2, T-mob etc) and it is only Three that doesn't work.

Can anyone suggest how to resolve.

Hey bikeman, welcome to Talk3G :)

I'm clueless. A bit like 3's Customer Service department in India :) Hopefully someone will be along with more information shortly!

Hi Bikeman. Check out this old thread on Talk3G https://talk3g.co.uk/showthread.php?t=396 It covers a lot of ground and you should be able to pick out the specific settings for GPRS, APN and MMS that you will need to set in the handset to get it all working.

As you've found out to your cost, 3's Customer Services are about as useful as a great big box of useless things. But there tends to be a fair bit of help on here in the archives of Talk3G. Most of us veterans have got the 3 battle scars to show for it :D

Stop moaning

1.Registered a debit card - I cant believe they need 7 days to do this, would you rather they accept a stolen one, they have to check things out most networks will do so, its not as if you are face to face and have other ID.

2. The Three website seems to be completely setup for their own handsets and if you haven't got one of them, they don't even give the settings so you can setup yourself - Three state on their web site very clearly for those who can read that they cant support handsets not on their netwok. Three provide a link to all of the main mobile firms which allows you to down load three settings.

3. . Cant get hold of customer services - as a Payasugo user I dialled 444 but only get options to topup or review tariff info, no option to actually speak to anyone- thats because its the TOP UP Number try dialing 333, again this number if on there site!

We're very protective of three over here!

I have to agree with solo though, the OP seemed to want a rant.

Bikeman, don't be put off, we're a nice bunch on here :) and give three a chance, right now I'd put them on a par with the other networks for quality of network, product and CS.

!

errrr it's pay as you go - other networks dont require 7 days. And if the card is good enough for three to grasp £10 on day 1, I dont see that they have much to worry about.

Are you a bit thick or something? Every other network provider recognises that they cant cover every handset and many are not from mainstream manufacturers, so they provide basic settings for manual setup. Even if they dont they have customer service staff who can perovide this info - not just respond with 'we cant support blah blah blah...'

Yeah and on the site it says 333 is for pay monthly cust support and 444 for payasugo cust support.

see http://www.three.co.uk/personal/help_support_/contact_us_/index.omp

So Three's website is wrong. You may know it is 333, but as a new user I looked on their site and got the wrong information.

Do you work for Three by any chance?

Since my OP I have spoken to a Three employee in the UK and have been informed the reason I could not surf beyongd planet 3 was nothing to do with my settings, it was because Three's network was preventing it until my card had gone through - despite taking my £10 immediately.

Today I can surf.

Now why couldn't Three's customer services just have told me that......

Now why couldn't Three's customer services just have told me that......

Because their Mumbai Call Centre is staffed with complete numpties! Seriously, that is Outsource experience common to all Call Centres and not just 3, although they do seem to train their CSRs to upset customers especially well.

Glad you're sorted though. As Solo and others have said, 3's network, tariffs and other stuff are generally quite good, and for some have always been. I'd love to use them but will not until I read in the press that they've shut down Mumabi CS. Not another penny from me until then.
