I now know two Orange 3G users who have recently switched off 3G on their handsets completely after the performance of the network simply became intolerable.
Both, a hundred miles apart, were experiencing 'missed calls (https://talk3g.co.uk/showthread.php?t=932&highlight=orange+missed+calls)' when their handset never even rang, problems with texts and problems getting a data connection.
Since switching back to Orange 2G, the problems were resolved. One of the users has found GPRS over GSM considerably faster and more robust than it was when on 3G.
Both users were on Nokia E65's that had, until recently, been fine.
