Reports are hitting the street that the iPhone firmware version 2.0 has introduced a certain sluggishness to the iPhone. I have certainly noticed this on both the iPhone 2G and iPod Touch that I just updated to v2.0 firmware.
For sure the new firmware is a big jump up from 1.x having very new features and significant rewrites of code. Inevitably bugs creep in. So we have to hope that Apple's developers iron these early bugs out in time for a 2.1 release :)
If you find your gestures and taps on the iPhone are a bit unresponsive don't panic, it will catch up with you in a moment. It seems to be most prevalent when switching apps, not so much when launching an app after the iPhone has been idle for a while. So my guess is that it is going to be something the V2.0 firmware's memory management that is causing its OS X to splutter a bit.
Forewarned is forearmed :D
NB: This thread stickied until the problem is resolved.

I've noticed this also and was getting a bit frustrated because it was hanging for a bit each time I tried to do anything.. Have got full confidence a new patch will be out and it will be super whizzy soon !

Yes, I've noticed it can be a bit jittery. I've managed to out-type mine a couple of times! :D It's not spoiling my enjoyment of the phone, though, but I look forward to it being resolved. Not having owned an iPhone before I didn't really know whether it was normal or not.

Yes , I have noticed ! I put it down to the mobileme thing, and thought it was down to syncing going on in the background
I am glad this has been brought up though, silly little things like when scrolling through contacts - although it is still more slick and fluid than any other device on the market , it is nowhere near as as it was on earlier versions
Hopefully it will be resolved in a new firmware update ? Hope so !

I've noticed that safari crashes every now and again, in the same way the N95 crashes. I do find the touch screen excellent, but it does sometimes fail to respond.

Now that is really strange - others have reported Safari crashing in pre 2.0 firmware also. But for the life of me I have never, ever, had a Safari crash on my iPhone 2G! Go figure!!

Never had Safari crash on my iPhone yet - is there a way to reproduce it?

I have never had Safari totally crash per se , BUT a few times I have been browsing a forum such as this , and suddenly every link on the page will cease to be a link (i.e. nothing is clckable ) ... From that point refreshing the page , navigating to other pages etc. will still work , but links will not - really frustrating ! and the only way to fix it is to restart the phone !
Fortunately it only happens once in a blue moon - anyone else suffered this ?
Even with this bug , safari on the iPhone is still far and away the best way to experience the mobile internet on a phone

well what I'm usually doing is listening to music and browsing at the same time. When I'm using google reader I'll often visit other sites, thus I'll have more than one tab open at once. Other than that, I'm not doing very much.

I am un-stickying this thread because it is now a bit dated and Apple have since released two versions of the iPhone firmware. Old news unless you have just landed from Mars :)
