Predicatbly, perhaps, the annoucement merely adds fuel to the already impassioned fire on both sides of the fence. But for those awaiting the new beastie this is news that cannot come too early.
Parent company CEO alludes to joint O2, Apple press conference in the "coming weeks"
O2 has added fuel to the fire after it announced that it and Apple would be making a joint statement in the "coming weeks", adding to already rampant speculation that Steve Jobs would be using the WWDC event to take the wraps a new 3G version of its iPhone.
The device, which is currently sold out across the network, and Apple itself, saw a £100 price cut on the base model last month, prompting analysts to suggest a 3G model of the phone was imminent.
Apple has declined to comment on the announcement by 02. The announcement of the joint press conference emerged after the chief executive of Telefonica 02 Europe revealed that his firm would be making a joint statement with the iPhone firm in the coming weeks, but declined to say whether it was related to a 3G version of the iPhone or not.

And
LONDON (Reuters) - Telefonica's O2 (TEF.MC: Quote, Profile, Research) and Apple (AAPL.O: Quote, Profile, Research) will be making a joint announcement in the "coming weeks", prompting speculation that the U.S. firm is set to announce a new third-generation model of its iPhone.
Mobile operator O2 has secured the right to sell the iPhone in Ireland and Britain and last month it cut prices for the most basic version by 100 pounds in the British market.
Analysts interpreted this as a bid to clear shelf space ahead of what is expected to be the launch of a new model that will run on faster 3G networks.
Apple has declined to comment.
Matthew Key, chief executive of Telefonica O2 Europe, told reporters on a conference call after his group's results that Telefonica and Apple would make a joint statement over the coming weeks but he declined to say whether it would be about 3G iPhones.
"It is broadly known we are now out of stock of the 8 gigabyte and we have got some 16 gigabytes left," Key told Reuters in a separate interview.

So there you have it :) It is definitely, maybe.
