Be very careful here, 3 (three) mobile have charged me an exorbitant amount for going over the monthly 3GB limit. They mislead me instore by saying this was not possible, and the customer "help" is dreadful, both on the Indian no-help line and instore (Eastbourne branch anyway). I was notified (by being sent 50 messages all at once!!) 2 days after allegedly going over my limit, and later told they couldnt contact me sooner as I hadn't been online!!! Overall they charged me £39 for one month for allegedly using 3.3GB, just 10% over the 3GB, normally £15 a month, the 7GB bundle being £25. Normally I could only use less than 1GB, the download speed being so slow. Avoid if at all possible.Three 3 mobile internet is a disgraceful rip-off.

Welcome to Talk3G!

Unfortunately Three charge 10p per megabyte if you go over your allowance. That means you have to be pretty careful about how much data you're using. On the flip side, Three are offering some great deals - if you stay within your limits they're very good value.

Vodafone charge £15 per gigabyte if you go over. So, it'd have actually cost you less than on Three, even though you only used 0.3GB extra. In that sense, Vodafone customers are actually getting a much 'safer' deal.

Other networks offer better deals still, where there's no fixed penalty for going over - I think T-Mobile do this.

On the selling side, was it an actual Three store that miss-sold you? Unfortunately retail staff can be a little creative with the truth (many are fantastic, some are not) - Talk3G is completely independent, you can always check here for information in the future!

To be fair mate , you are lucky to have this "brought to your attention" over £24 - Stories of Vodafone's "overuns" running into £1,000's are not unheard of - with one unfortunate guy actually being banrupted with a £70,000 odd bill !!

So, yes it's bad , but it could have been A LOT worse !! Try to find some consolation in the fact that you are only £24 down and not £2,400 down

I went off on a bit of a tangent, so I've blogged (https://talk3g.co.uk/blog.php?b=24) it.

I dont understand why hes moaning. One three sent him 50 messages to inform him of the fact thats hes going over limit and he moans about that.

Two Its clearly marked on threes website that x charges of 10p per MB will apply , while I agree its OTT unlike vodafone, he clealy dint read his contract or looked at the large print on thress web site which clearly state chages of 10p per mb over the three gig.

As pointed out may others have not been informed by their networks. He was and moaded about it!

No-one ever seems to check the usage on My3. You can't blame the operators for trying to make a quick £ or two. Mobile broadband can't make them much profit & it's only by users going over the limits that they can make the extras.

Mobile broadband can't make them much profit ..........

Eh? I do not agree with that statement at all m'lud :p

Selling mobile broadband for £15/3GB makes the networks a whole lot more money than they ever made selling it at a premium to only the wealthy few or businesses. Face it, once the back-hauls are in place it is near-pure profit. Yes, yes there is upkeep and maintenance, but all of the networks have their own IP networks in place anyway - to have regular punters at speeds of less than 7.2Mbps presents no challenge at all to the network capacity where often gigabit or dark-fibre links are in place. Wholesale network costs are very cheap in relative terms.

I parked my car in a Car park the other day , I paid for 3 hours parking

....when I returned 3 hours 20 minutes later , I had been charged an extra £60 - bringing my total parking charge to £62.50

No effort was made by the council to contact me ,

Bloody rip off !

If only we had something we could strap to our wrists that told us how much data we have consumed in the current billing cycle :D

Mobile data usage is just so hard to track, as I found out in Spain. 50MB per 24 hour period would have been hard to keep track of over the course of several days even if Vodafone hadn't monged up the billing regardless.

So you are all happy that 3 charge £100 a GB for "overuse" when T mobile charge nothing?....The point you may have missed is that the store told me the bill was capped at £15 a month, that my daughter in Uni couldnt go over if she tried.....

Furthermore, I have now had it confirmed by 3 that it is possible to cap your limit, after having visited the Eastbourne store, where the "manager" Darren said this was not possible (although the salesman originally told me I couldnt go over the £15 a month charge even if I tried) When I phoned him to tell him he said "we just sell the contracts the way we are told to by the company!!" As I said, T mobile internet do not charge you if you go over, just advise you as any decent company would, not sting you for £100 a GB "overuse"!! I would switch to them but I am stitched into an 18 month contract now, even though they signed me up under false pretenses...some urgent new legislation is needed because this company is not fit to regulate itself, and they are taking full advantage of the situation..

@scoobyjones1 - no sir, I don't think you'll find that we're happy that 3 charge £100 a GB for overuse. But the point that we are making in our own unique manner is that this really is a case of "Caveat Emptor" - or "Buyer Beware", it really is.

The fact that you've been caught out is not really 3's fault because they publish their details quite clearly. That the store salesman mis-sold the product to you is probably your only reasonable scope for getting out of your contract. It will be hard for you to prove what was said, and the ultimate get-out for 3 is that you signed the contract in-store, it is your job to read it. And believe me, I do tend to read these much to the absolute chagrin of the salesman. I go directly for the sections in the contract that affect termination, charges and out-of-bundle information. If any is not on the contract or missing I ask for it.

What I'm saying is that you really have to have your wits about you when shopping for this stuff. You are playing with dice that are loaded against you. Before you sign you really must make sure that you truly are happy to put your signature on that piece of paper.

We do sympathise with your plight, but it is somewhat of your own making too. Sorry if that is not what you want to hear :)
