bonjour! I've got an n95 8gb which i've had for just over 14 days now from O2. When i originally bought the handset it had a bit of sideways movement in the slider. I thought, fair enough, it cant be rigid, however, over the 14 trial period it has become much slacker. If i shake the phone it rattles and creeks and slides open with little or no force.
Obviously i'm not happy. Especially when friends and family have better build quality in the original n95's.
Do you think o2 will exchange the handset for me or do you think that because i'm out of the 14 day trial, they wont do anything for me?
I do like the handset, however, i'm reluctant to get another if its going to have the same issues as this.

You could try changing it , IIRC , when I had a problem with my XDA exec, I was told that they replace handsets under 30 days old without question , whereas handsets of older than 30 days will get sent for repair .....
Now of course ,I am an honourable man , so I wouldn't dream of suggesting that you pretend you have some kind of intermittant fault (as well as the rattling) .. that warrants a replacement - So I don't really know what to suggest ;)

Well, Voda replaced mine easily enough when I discovered that black spot on my pictures... I have no idea how old the phone was, but hopefully O2 would also replace. Good luck!

Do you think i could get it changed for an iPhone (obviously paying the difference) or do you think O2 would need to class that as a completely new contract?

It would do no harm to ask. A lot would depend on if there is a mechanism for O2 to take back the faulty N95 8GB, get it refurb'd and back out to the next punter.

A friend who used to work for Orange told me that they will only offer a different model on the 3rd replacement -not sure if that is something that applies to all the rest , but I suspect there would be a similar poilicy , - if you really kick up a fuss about the how disappointed you are with the N95 , then it may be possible they'd offer you another model
I know there is a standard "buy out" price of £219 if you migrate to an iphone - I know this sound like a lot when you are paying at least £269 for the iPhone , but think about it ... you would be effectively "buying" your N95 for £219
in fact , that could be a very clever way of making a few quid if you were looking to get an iPhone anyway ! :)
i.e.
Get a free N95 8GB on a £35 pm deal
a month later , buy that contract out for £219
...You have just bought an N95 8GB for (at the most) £289 - maybe even £254
of course , you would have to take out an iPhone contract , but if you were going to do that anyway ?

Just an update! I walked into O2 and said "I've brought my N95 8GB back coz its got a rattl. . . " and before i could finish the girl behind the counter took it out of my hand and went "ill get you a new one". Which was good.
This version is a lot more secure. If it gets slacker tho ill take it back again!!

Excellent news !
BTW - Isn't N95 8GB A bloody stupid name for a handset ? It sounds like a postcode FFS ! Doesn't exactly roll off the tongue does it ?

Oh it's awful, no doubt about it. But if it takes an awful name to make an awesome phone then I'm all for it!
