I have a 6GB micro SD in my N95 and while it takes the phone quite a while to start up from Off once it is up it does not run any slower than without the card in place.

I recently got the 8GB microSD card for my birthday (thanks Mum) and have not noticed any noticeable difference.

However I am running V20 firmware.
