Lmao, oh lord!

It's an interesting device. Just don't expect it to be like the old communicators, I hear it's very good but that it's Series 60 front and inside, not 40 and 80, and that, of course, S60 is a little lacking compared to some of the grunt S80 had.

How are you going to buy? Maybe even resort to a Vodafone store?

Not sure Vodafone Canterbury will serve me ,as I have spent the last year or so pulling faces at them as I walk past ...
It is a toss up between Voda and o2 at the moment (my thinking is the o2 model will come unlocked & ready for use on t-mobile ) - or I may just get a sim free one , although this would be harder to get past accounts (the wife)
TBH S80 was never really that good anyway ,not looked into it properly yet ,but I am guessing the e90 will have a decent amount of ram available - if there is , then I'd expect S60 to outperform the older communicators - TBH us communicator users are guilty of looking at the devices with rose coloured glasses , If we are honest they have all been pretty slow - if the s60 os is as quick as it is on the e61 , then it will be better IMO

Hmmm , looks like I have to change my plans

Seemingly every supplier in the country has had thier e90's recalled - from what I can gather , it's down to battery overheating problems

Apparantly Nokia are unable to give a date as to when they will send out "revised" ones - The Vodafone rep I spoke to said Nokia have quoted "between anyday now and three months ":eek:

...So that blows that one :(

If I end up with an iphone I'll hold Nokia personally responsible :)

This is so frustrating !

I have that 'need a new phone' bug , and I want an e90 :(

...I am genuinely worried about what I will console myself with - just had to go out to stop myself from buying a P990i from expansys (they have them sim free for £185!) - good price , and they have supposedly sorted the myriad of issues now (well, most of them) ...but I can't help but remember all the horror stories !
Anyway , its not what I really want - so I must resist !

Yes, you must! They've done what they can in software, but the hardware is still lacking.

I have the bug too. There's just nothing out at the moment. And, of course, the longer it takes for the Nokia 8GB to come out the more I 'need' it. I think it comes out this month or early next, so hopefully I'll be put out of my misery soon.

You don't fancy the 8GB then? The screen just looks sooo much more delicious, despite only being fractionally larger, and the whole thing just looks so sleek. Mmmmm.

nah , TBH the 8GB just isn't grabbing me for some reason ... I really have got my mind set on an E90 - if I get something in the meantime it will have to be sub £300 & sim free or ebay
May consider the SE P1i .., but again , it just doesnt grab me , I am more attracted to the form factor of the p990i -best avoided really
I may look for a local , unlocked iPhone - but I am very mistrusting of iphone sellers generally

Ah , now we are getting somewhere :D

Been in Canterbury this AM , at the risk of sounding repetatively grudge holding ( ;) ) - Vodafone tried to feed me a load of crap , and o2 were pretty helpful (there's a surprise)

Firstly , walked into the Vodafone store , the assistant came over ,and I asked him what was occouring with the e90 situation , he "informed" me that Vodafone had sold too many of these and Nokia couldn't keep up with production ! (even though it is plastered all over the internet that they were recalled and Nokia actually halted production to regroup ! ) - I put this to him and he said it was wrong :D ..... Lying little toerag

o2 , on the other hand made my heart skip a beat ... as they had an e90 dummy on the shelf
"Is this in stock ? " I excitedly asked the assistant
"No sir " he replied , shattering my excitement in two words :( ... but he then went on to say "We will have them in this monday !" :D ,he then went one better than Vodafone (in my opinion) and confirmed that the first batch were dodgy , but he reassured me that Nokia wouldn't have gone through the enormous cost of a recall just to send out devices that have not been thoroughly checked now , I suppose it isn't the sort of costly mistake you'd want to make twice !!
So it looks like o2 it is !

Why the Vodafone gimp chose to try and feed me a load of crap I don't know, not sure if he is just passing on crap he has been told by HO , or maybe it is the company line ? the thing is , people that buy Communicators are bound to have done plenty of research before buying , I even gave him a clue when I asked "What is happening with the e90 situation"

The only thing now ,is that the o2 version (well ,and the Vodafone version) are both available on business only tarriffs , Now , I have an Orange business account (by accident !) - I am self employed - but do not have seperate personal and business acccounts - anyone know if I can get away with a business account on o2 or Voda without these ? What are the requirements to open a business account over a Personal one ?

Shouldn't be a problem - normally to set up business accounts (self employed) all you usually need is a previous year's accounts and one or two supplier bills (elec, gaz, BT). I never bothered with business accounts as my usage would not be noticeable on the personal accounts, and the business rates tend to be a bit more expensive than personal. Either way, if the phone contract is a legit business expense then it is fully deductable for income tax.

Now my only reservation is that you're steering towards O2 - perhaps they have the more knowledgeable of two sales creature. But their network and offshore CS suck. Bargepoles and touching spring to mind when anyone mentions O2 to me.

It is precisely because O2 won the deal that I will 1000% not be buying an Apple iPhone. Won't touch one until it appears on another network, and that will be in 5 years time if what I read is correct.

You sure you haven't got "**** Vodafone" tatooed on your forehead? ;)

Oh , I wasn't going to USE it on o2 ! , I just wanted to get the handset for about £200 ,then put the o2 sim in one of my other mobiles for general use (for calling mobiles from home etc) ... I could buy sim free , but making £6-700 dissappear is more of a problem than spending £200 of my "pocket money" and then £35 per month - the wife would probably not even notice :D - Plus I do like to have a "hand" in most of the networks so I can keep an eye on their performance

Right ....
After much to-ing and fro-ing between the HTC Kaiser and the E90 , I have finally decided on the E90 ! This decision was helped along by the fact that T-mobile messed me about on an order for the Kaiser - plus the fact that o2's re-pricing of the e90 on its eventual restock was VERY attractive !
If you look at Expansys , the Sim free price of the E90 is £659 (or thereabouts ) this is generally the picture across the board , although I did find one supplier offering for £569 (although they have no stock ) -so not sure if they really will supply at this price , The Nokia store sell them at £649

So I am paying o2 £40 per month on a 12 monther - plus I paid them £89 for the phone -
£40 x 12 = £480 + £89 = £569 Total price ! ... So I am getting the handset for about £80-90 LESS than the sim free price , on "interest free" credit :D , plus getting 600 mins & 1000 texts thrown in !

I suspect this is to give the device a kick start to make up for the troubled launch - or maybe it is to make way for the e90i - who knows ?

I am happy with what I paid though , felt a bit clunky to start with , but then I have been playing with my Touch for the last two days , so everything feels clunky in comparison :)
The device feels a lot nicer / better build quality than the 9500 - I got a nasty fright when I turned it on , as an O2 spashscreen appeared, and an o2 shortcut appeared on the home screen  I got the handset at 8.50 - by 9.35 it was flashed to UK mocca Generic firmware - :D , much nicer !
Not had a chance to use the thing properly yet , tried the web browser out , but TBH it don't feel like HSDPA ! I'll have to check the settings to make sure it is enabled
On the whole , looks good though

I am sure it's around here somewhere ..... But I'm using it on t-mobile for now (and for the forseeable future !)

As an impulse , I just picked up a 6GB micro SD from CPW for £49 inc a USB card reader

Not sure if I could have got a cheaper deal online - but I was quite chuffed -I remember 1GB SD's costing more than this 3 years ago ! Amazing how far these things have come in a relatively short time , Also amazing you can fit 6GB onto something that small !

Best look away now (http://www.mobymemory.com/products/SanDisk/Sandisk-6GB-Micro-SD-(SDHC)-memory-card-with-Sandisk-USB-reader.asp) :D

I'm thinking about upgrading my 2gig to the 6gig.

Ah well, at least you're safe in the knowledge that you've got one and you don't have to worry about relying on the post man.

It's not that long ago (10 years) that I had a 2.1gb hard drive on the my humble pc.

I bought a 6GB transflash from Mobymemory a few weeks back for about £35 which came with SD adapter and USB reader.

For the record - anyone who buys memory from anyone else than Mobymemory deserves to be whipped with a wet Kipper.
