What's the craic with mobizines on three? I downloaded it from mobizines directly and mostly use wi-fi to update the editions. BUT, I've just noticed that three offer it from their 'services' section for £2.99 a month. Does this mean I pay £2.99 a month for it, or because I didn't download it from three I wont get charged for using it?

Confused.

On another note, is there anyway to stop it from automatically updating? i.e. tell it to just update at a certain time each day. I seem to get updates every hour and while I want to see what vital info has just come my way, I'd rather just wait till later in the day.:p

Symbian client updates automatically mate.. but not over Wifi.
Hmm.. *wonders which version you have*

Three charges Mobizines users £2.99 pcm for the service (something they insisted on) and you also get a limited choice of Mobizines..
However - if you downloaded direct from the website and you have an unlimited data bundle (x-series for example) then you can get round it AND get the full version...

I know when I tried to download it with the browser, it wanted to send a text to three & charge after the trial. So I removed it & installed using the web browser over WLAN.

To be honest, I didn't find it that useful & the content only OK. So I removed it & didn't bother putting it onto my E61i. PocketExpress & MobiMate fall into the same category of OK for a few minutes, but not an essential app.

I have:
Mobizines UK S1
Version 4.50(870).

When I installed it for the first time and it asked to connect to the net, I had a choice of access points. I have my mob set up so that it always asks which access point to use i.e. home wifi, 3 etc. So when I'm at home mobizines uses the wlan to update. Well, I've just assumed it to be that as the wlan icon comes on screen, I then get an update and no other apps are supposed to be running.

@Gorilla:

Ah.. Symbian over Wifi - Hehe..
I thought that's what might've happened - (I do the same with my N95)
Yes - UNOFFICIALLY - that client doesn't support Wifi - but a savvy user can find his way round it... like yourself!

AFAIK - the Symbian client registers automatically... and therefore Mobizines should know you're a 3 user.
However - you can:

a) Check your list of available Mobizines, (if you have Maxim for instance then you're NOT in the 3 group).

b) Email [email protected]

c) PM me your number and I'll check you out myself!

d) Uninstall the Symbian client and install (and don't register) the Java client - see more below.

;)

@ Bsrjl1 - The E61i is probably not the best experience for Mobizines users. I think they force you to have the Java client because of the screen size. However, if you get that from the website and DONT send the registration SMS when asked - Mobizines won't know you're on Three and therefore won't charge you.

But you didn't hear that from me.

Just trying a re-install on my Nokia N93 (used to use it on my S40 6280). Its taking a bit of an age, but it is coming down. Why is it so slow, you lot still running it on a Sinclair QL?

But looking around the website I see this .....

Once you've received your first Mobizine, you'll be able to get new Mobizines quickly and easily on your mobile for just 5p. Browse Mobizines

WTF  Where's that 5p come from? It says Free on the front page. So what is it? Free or 5p?

The 5p thing is an old marketing message that hasn't been updated properly (apologies for the confusion - Refresh Mobile is in the middle of a proper clearout at the moment - hence the blog not being updated for a while etc).
5pm used to be the average price of a mobizine across all data plans.

But of course now 'all you can eat' plans are getting to be the norm - that message doesn't stand anymore..

In other words: Sod the 5p dude! ;)

Why's it so slow?
The Symbian client is HUGE. Massive. I hate it personally... but that is not the opinion of Refresh Mobile! ;)
Prefer Java... I run both on my N95. The Java is not as pretty but functionality-wise it wins hands down...

I had to give up in the end - it loaded up okay and then went downloading the catalogue. After 3 hours I gave up and uninstalled it :( Might give it another go over the weekend... I used to quite like it on the 6280. It should work on the N93 - thats no toy phone!

That 'downloading catalogue' status is a known bug - if it happens again, email them at [email protected] with your number and they'll fix it for you...

(although it is rare for it to happen twice on the trot)

I've got maxim (not that it's any good!).
I left the office last night (at 7.30 BTW, take me back to the normal civil service where I got to leave at 4 every day) and all off a sudden mobizines decided to update...everything. There should be a warning attached to it...do not use while driving. Bluetooth doesn't cover you in this case!
