I can't understand why 3 won't let you install MSN on anything other than an N73 & E65, so I decided to sort it out. Changed my useragent in Firefox, went to the portal page & tried to get the installer. It gave me a file, which is a JAD & the N80 won't open. Fiddled around & it doesn't like much info before the MIDLET section, so moved that to the top & it works fine :-) Also removed the certificate result so it installs on an unbranded handset.

Cool, well done :) Does anyone know if it's the same application that Three use as on mess.be?

No it's one created by Followap.com. Their severs proxy the MSN data, so the phone contacts them instead to save on data & battery.

Ah right, possibly for billing also?

Opened this forum on my Nokia N73 (Three Rebranded version) in Opera (Mobile version not mini) and downloaded the jad file which then proceeded to the install process. At this stage I got a "Disconnected" screen. I've been having problems with downloading jar apps thru a jad file, don't know if its the N73 in general or just mine.
Anyway getting back to installing, I opened the jad file and noticed the http:// direct path to the jar app which I followed and eventually downloaded. So opened the jad file again I removed the full path name to the jar file (Removed the http:// and kept MMG.N73....ENG.C.jar) and saved.
So with the jad and jar files in the same folder on my memory card I ran the jad file again and the MSN Messenger installed with no problems and I've managed to login and use the application.
Big thanks to bsrjl1, I've been trying for awhile to install the real MSN Messenger on my N73 since I rebranded it a few months back, so I now have the full X-Series apps all working agian on my mobile.

That's great news, thanks for posting your experience. If you have the working files themselves handy and want to put them up then that'd be great too.

Can't download to the forum (file too big) so added a link, hope this is okay?
Link (http://uk.geocities.com/gerrymoth/N73/apps/3MSN.zip)
Just extract to a folder on the memory card and run the jad file.

The reason 3 are not putting it for the N80 was they have doscontinued it (as have Nokia).
They are trying to get people over to the N73, E65 or N95 to get all the new features

O2 are still selling the N80, as are shop.nokia.co.uk - but I guess that could be stock. I would imagine it'll meet its end when the N95 is selling though.

Yeh.... from what i have heard from Nokia, the stock is still in warehouses but they are not making any more.
My guess is 3 just decided to stop buying so they can push the N73, E65 + eventually the N95.... then at least they dont have a warehouse full of N80 units doing nothing.
Shame because i really was excited for the N80, I got a black 1 the DAY it was launched on Expansys but the camera was a huge let down

The camera was the least of its worries, it's a true disappointment encased in plastic. If only the N73 had WiFi! :( Seriously, the N95 will have to be some awesome piece of phone to beat the N73 - it's a world class handset in every respect and the more I use it the better it gets.

Latest firmware for the N80 is 5.0725.01 released end of July 2007. Strange that they are still releasing firmware for a discontinued product.

Too be honest the MSN application on 3 phones is crap. It gives false information of who is signed in when they're not. I've started using ebuddy which is a far better application then 3's MSN offering. I also can't understand why 3 abandoned the nokia n80 its a great handset, I only wish I could have had the n80 instead of the n73.

Oh, the N80 isn't so great. I ended up hating mine. It's good on the surface, but that little sunken screen and slow OS becomes very irritating. The N73, on the other hand, has a lovely screen, and a lovely camera. Fortunately mine died and I had to buy something else... the N73 had the buggiest Nokia S60 OS I have *ever* encountered!
