Orange is to rework its animal tariffs, Mobile has learned. The operator will roll out more aggressive deals on its Dolphin, Racoon, Canary and Panther tariffs this week, putting 12-month contracts firmly back on the agenda.
Dealers said they were most struck by what Orange had done with the 12-month Dolphin 35 plan.
The operator has added 150 extra texts per month to the tariff, offering a total of 300 minutes and 400 texts.
A Phones 4u store manager described the move as significant for customers. 'It's a big issue that there is nothing on 12 months for a texter. This is a strong deal that I expect will be popular,' he said.
The Canary 40 and Panther 55 12-month tariffs have also had more texts bundled with them, on top of extra minutes.
Interestingly, Orange has reduced the number of inclusive texts in some of its 18-month plans to make way for a big boost in minutes. The Racoon 35 leaps from 500 to 700 minutes, but cuts the number of inclusive texts from 200 to 100. The Canary 40 goes up to 850 minutes from 600, but texts fall from 400 to 300.
The only tariff not to be reworked is the Dolphin 35 18-month plan, which is the operator's most popular.
An Orange spokesman said: 'In effect, we're providing more value. We know that customers are spending around the £35 mark and so we're providing for that.'
Mobile understands that the operator is also looking into introducing 24-month tariffs in the near future.
