Mobile phone operator 3 is putting its £40m creative advertising account up for pitch after parting company with ad agency WCRS.
The review comes following the appointment late last year of the brand communications director, John Penberthy-Smith, a former director of consumer marketing at Vodafone UK.
3 has been reviewing its advertising and brand strategy in a shift away from its iconic Asian-themed commercials.
WCRS recently won the £75m Sky contract away from Sir Martin Sorrell's WPP, but losing the 3 contract will be a major blow.
The 3 contract could be worth up to £50m.
3 UK's director of brand and marketing communications, Gary Pepler, left the mobile operator at the end of last year amid a major restructure at the company.
Pepler joined 3 from Sony in June, replacing Julian Hough, who returned to WCRS as group development director, after a two-year secondment.
