Well, we tried and we tried. For just about twelve months we have [in North Kent] endured O2's complete lack of a viable 3G signal and a not so good 2G signal either. This with the 3G mast within eyesight and less than 200M from our house. The only way to get a 3G signal strong enough to outdo the tepid 2G signal is to press the handset up against the window glass!
Some thought that the problem might lie with the Sony Ericsson K600i - but that has been proved away by experiencing precisely the same effect with Samsung Z500, Motorola A835, E1000 and LG U8120 3G handsets. Bottom line, O2's 3G is pants.
This morning, exactly one month ahead of the 12 month completion, we have phoned in the cancellation and immediately received the PAC for the number which we will now take to Vodafone. The latter has demonstrated a rock-solid 3G signal in pretty much all areas that we live, work and play in. As a result, Vodfaone has grabbed an ever-increasing share of the family's custom. Rightly so.
Upon giving the reason for leaving the O2 CS simply offered up the PAC with no further suggestion of help being offered to persuade us to stay.
I feel no sorrow at leaving O2 - we did try and liaise with their CS at various levels and using various means. The response was ineffectiveness or indifference, they've lost the plot. Our response was entirely predictable.
Goodbye O2.
