Just wondering how many here have sampled the delights of the 3UK network and 'disposed' of a 3G handset?
Were you releived? What did you replace your 'rouge' handset with?

I couldn't vote 'cos there isn't a "None" so I'll comment anyway (hopefully keeping in the spirit of the thread :) ).
Blimey! I still have "all" of mine :) I started out with a pair of e606 on 3ToGo and still have them. One of the e606 was [very recently] used by my daughters b/f to assess the H3 quality in Eastbourne area. It is good. He is therefore considering taking out at least a Threepay if not full Contract . So the e606 pair are now semi-retired in their boxes in my study along with my pile of 2/2.5G and 1G phones (!).
I also have three (3) A835s in the house, two of which are actually in use by the family. These were all bought on eBay this year, since Feb. All are on Threepay.
There exists also an NEC e338 in active use on Threepay by my younger daughter.
For my own sins, I am currently active on a Contract Moto E1000 (using the A835 as my plaything).
Oh, and for whatever madness posessed me two nights ago, I have an LG8120 in the post to me from an eBayer (I wanted another toy to play with for a while).
I'm sure that not even Ben is quite so insane as I :)

That is one hell of a lot of 3 handsets!
I've had one e606 that's been binned (it's useless, don't think it would even turn on in the end) and another that, while still clear of waste disposal, is 'as good as binned'. It's kept more for the memory of how excited and then let down I felt :D
The e338, LG U8120 and Moto E1000 sound worth using, but imma come round there and flatten your A835's for you :p

Are you a 3 point HandsOn??
My vote went to the C975. Before I had my Sanyo & Z1010 I wanted a video phone to muck about with on Orange, thinking it would be easy to have it unlocked, whcih it was, and just pop thie USIM in. How wrong was I. I've never seen a handset so customised by the network, it left it almost completely inoperable by the user with another SIM, quite possibly that's 3's plan. Also, with the USIM in it constantly lost the signal, would show no network and even when it seemed to be OK wouldn't route calls to the handset, (however everything was fine with a Orange GSM SIM inserted) I can only presume there were 3 settings burried deep trying to access that network... and they couldn't as my Orange USIM was plugged in.
I used the £15 free credit, then sold the handset on eBay "unlocked" for £80, making me a nice profit of £50.
For the short while that I did have use of the network I can't say I was particularly impressed, however that may be to do with the handset as I've heard other users with 7600's etc really enjoy their experience of Three UK.

Noooooooooooooooooooooooo!
The A835s all work faultlessly (they are on the current rev of software which I suppose helps). Wifey uses hers 98% The other gets frequent use. My [unlocked] plaything gets fiddled around with when I'm of the mind to. They are not so bad in the hand either although they look terrible in photos. I'm not a long-term fan of Moto, but I was quite [okay, very] surprised at the quality of the A835 .
Now here's the strange thing. While everyone had horrendous tales to tell of their NEC e606 my pair worked flawlessly (as much as they should have, that is) doing all that they said they would. One of the two had to be replaced twice, but the third worked well and the pair are rock solid performers. Even better now that they don't have to flip to 2G (in fact, with Threepay USIMs they cannot flip to 2G, a software issue I'm led to believe). Batty life is better than its ever been for that reason. A full day on the standard batt, I don't know how long on the extended life batt! (I got fed up waiting for it to flatten after 3 days).
I only hope the LG8120 keeps up the trend - it was, after all, heavily slated everywhere and made a primetime appearance on BBC's Watchdog not so long ago. I'm hoping it really does have the latest s/w (as claimed) and is thus bug-free as its soon to be stablemates.
I, like you Ben, clearly remember the heady excitement of the first days of 3, followed by the rapidly apparent reality, and then the crushing disappointment. It has been so much better this second time round - and it'll stay that way I suspect as long as I don't have to deal with the Mumbai operation.

To answer the question ......... "No, I'm most certainly not". I'm just a psycho gadget freak of the first order. Motto "He who dies with the most toys wins" which is why I've three motorcycles in the garage too.

Use my old 606 with an ugly big battery on it every day!
One of the very few hansets to have a built in Field Test Menu as standard these days.
Must admit tho, if it wasn't for this I'd probably have set it on fire & danced naked round it covered in Swarfega a couple of years ago.
Aw heck, who needs a dodgy phone to do that though!

The U8120 gets to be very reliable once it has software v105+ installed. Prior to that all sort of pooey things happen on it!
U8110s can be made reliable too with the last version of software that was released.
I think LG either had bad software quality control or they rushed it to market with a view to fixing it afterwards. unfortunately, the initial and early software was not overly good (to be absolutely kind).

The reasons I gave back my LG was the software and the fact the service was poor. It was more the service was poor than the phone

Yea I know what you mean. Unfortunately for Three, the LG series merely highlighted and drew to attention the direness that is their service operation. If they'd been (a) honest about the series and (b) totally switched on as a CS team they could have alleviated the customers problems quickly and won a ton of goodwill. As it happens, history will record that they fell at every hurdle!
I've not binned anything at all (see earlier in this thread) - but then I am a bit of a collector (my wife says the proper word is hoarder but I disagree :) )

My LG (8110) has worked flawlessly for over a year, on the original software!
The only bug I have ever seen is if you make and receive a call at the same time: it just freezes up?!
Its about to be 'retired' to make way for a forgetful Nokia, but overall I have been very impressed...

@ads - The LG U8110 responds very well to the last version of software that they produced. It sorted out that freezing up problem also.
The LG U8138 also had some initial software problems! Weird. But also an indication that LG's software QA is not all that it could be.

I just think LG's are cheap rip offs of Samsungs

Internally, they are based on Sony Ericsson electronics. But they do have a certain look and feel of the Samsungs. Their success seems to have been their attractiveness for a 3G handset (consider what was about when they launched these).
