Will getting a few hundred million quid back mean we won't be charged as much?
Mobile phone giants attempting to claim back £3.3bn in VAT on 3G licences will discover on 7 September whether they are likely to be successful in their bids.
The five licencees Hutchison 3G, mm02, Orange, T-Mobile and Vodafone are awaiting a ruling on the issue from the European Court of Justice.
ECJ diaries released this week suggest that the advocate general, whose view is followed in most cases, will give a view on 7 September.
The five paid £22.5bn for the licences to operate the new mobile phone technology.
