Wow, I have come across some incompetence in my time playing
with mobiles, but Three (www.three.co.uk) take some beating.....and
you all thought Orange was bad...
Ok, this is it so far.
Fancied an E61 Nokia, had one a while back, nice phone. The only
3G provider with a signal in the places I want to use it is 3
Went into the local Superdrug (I suppose the warning signs are
everywhere when you think about it, I mean, a crappy messy corner
of a low end cheap shop), and told the guy I wanted an E61, about
300 mins, a few text, and Wireless Web 56, which is a 56mb
"addon" for the proper internet, quite a new addon from this lot, who
up till now have been a bit crap at real data.
I decided not to add the data at purchase, cos if you do that, you
have to keep it for min 6 months, so the shop guy said no problem,
add it on the handset, or call 333 and they activate it within a few
hours.
He put me on Web Talk & Text 700, £37.50 on a 12 month contract,
first 3 months half price. Check the website, Price Plans down left
hand side, then "standard plans", second one down.....12 months at
£18.75......click on that, and halfway down, you will see reference to
add ons.....click that one, and you get a full page describing all the
add ons, Wireless Web 56 is second from end.
Anyone think that is fairly clear? I did. And the shop Manager and
assistant had told me no problem.
OK, got he handset charged up, went into "My 3" on the handset,
clicked through to "subscribe", and all I had under the Web & Email
section was some naff email plans and walled garden plans, Add
Mobile Sites or some such bollox.
Not a problem, called up on 333, spoke to one of Bombay's finest,
very polite they are........yes Mr Wright, that will be added on within
a max of 8 hours.
Keep trying it last night, but no joy. Tried it today......no joy....OK,
lets call them.
ME: "Why has my Wireless Web 56 add on not been added on yet
please"
3: "um, Wireless Web is not compatible with your selected price
plan"
ME: "ok, thanks for letting me know" (sarcasm is wasted on those
nice folk)
Called the shop that sold me it........no problem, come in store
tomorrow and we will add it. As I was unable to go into store
tomorrow, I called back on 333 and was put through various levels
and lots of Indian people called John, Bob, Paul and other I forget.
All very helpful and genuine people. I really feel sorry for these
people, likely as not paid peanuts working for this sorry arsed bunch
of w.......kers.
I now believe that the Wireless Web 56 can not be added to my
price plan, and they offered to transfer me to a "compatible" price
plan, BUT, the add on will not work for 30 more days, meaning I get
charged £100 if I use 50mba of data that would normally cost only
£15
Anyway all, think about this. The handsets are locked and are very
hard to unlock, all support is shipped out to Bombay, and the plans
are confusing, downright stupid, and all the add ons have the sting
in the tail of not working until your next billing date, could mean
some nasty surprises for some people.
So, all of a sudden, I am seeing Orange in another light :-)
