mob453 - please let me know if your phone has the same problems - Mine sends a text at around 12:00 everyday (or 1pm if you've got it set to daylight-saving), but it doesn't show in the log, only on the bill!

No definitely not. Reflashed phone (& removed card), left it sat there & it still does it. Also I'm not using a 'dodgy' version of software to flash. It started with v5.0615 (not released) for me & a couple of other people.

No I'm not getting that problem, but then again I never put 5.0615 on my phone.

what exactly did you flash to your phone?

if you flash developer firmware to your phone, you will always get issues like that.

have you formatted your memory card then green key, 3 key, * key reset your n70?

Route66 is working fine on this release.

Right - I'm still really anxious about upgrading my own firmware..
Has anyone been successful with removing Vodafone firmware?

Whenever I've tried to get my N70 done in the past at workshops they always end up having to send it away...
But its on the Vodafone ones that 'die' so to speak..

mob453
21st June 2006, 07:19 PM
been successful in removing:

orange firmware,
vodafone firmware,
t-mobile firmware
3 firmware.

All to generic.

Ok, successfull upgrade here, but another problem. Since I upgraded to 5.0616.2.0.3 the battery life has worsened quite a bit. Yesterday (till about 5pm) I charged the battery to the max. I watched about 10 mins of Mobile TV, a bit of browsing and at about 1pm today the battery was down to one bar.
Anyone an idea what the problem could be?

I've noticed a loss of battery life on my 6680 after I upgraded the firmware. I've put this down to my battery dying and have ordered a replacement. I'll let you know how I get on.

just a few points to note... The internal only versions of the software are set up to send a SMS every day at midnight - this is so Nokia can monitor stability of releases prior to making them available externally. iirc, the SMS contains your mobile number, time sincce last reboot and memory usage. This is automatically interpreted into stability statistics and is designed to catch memory leaks and reboot issues that were not caught in the unit and module test stages. These versions of the software are only designed for internal use on Nokia paid for SIMs and if a version has leaked out then someone at Nokia needs a bit of a slap. It is something that can be turned off in the version of Pheonix I used to use but whether that's in the cracked version that you guys have been using I don't know.

On the subject of Pheonix, the dongle issue is not something you canget around I'm afraid. Nokia distribute "dongles" to key employees to control who can flash what type of phone and these are strictly controlled. It was also to stop the reflash software leaking out into the public domain :)

IIWY, install your software, then as soon as you're happy, remove pheonix from your PC - it gets updated on a weekly basis anyway, so by the time you want to upgrade again there'll be a new cracked version out there...

As for battery life - could well be the software - certain versions were notoriously bad (which is one reason I never upgraded before i left) - usually after the core series 60 software had been updated. YOu may find a version dated 2 or 4 weeks later has solved this problem. Another thing to check is reception. Constantly switching into and out of 3G really drains those batteries...
