I have just bought a 6680 :) (used)

It all seems ok - but i have noticed that despite being in a strong 3G area (the last time I put my Vodafone sim in a 3G device) I only get the two opposing arrows below the signal meter , and no 3G icon

... yet if I go try to manually select networks - the Vodafone network shows as 3G , I connect to it straight away - but no 3G indicator

Of course it is possible there is no 3G coverage here ATM ., but like I say , there definately used to be very good coverage ?

A bit annoying really , as the only reason I bought it was to try out mobile TV :(

Perhaps I should try a reflash ?

Any suggestions ?

As it says on the back cover of The Hitchhkers Guide to the Galaxy "Don't Panic!" :D

I just checked my 6680 with a Threepay USIM and it does not show 3G either. Once there is a data transmission the opposing arrows show up, but at no point is there a 3G symbol, although I'd have sworn in a UK court of law that there was/should be one!

Cheers dude , that's reassuring - at least , it would have been

Rang CS just to make sure that my sim hadn't been "restricted" ( i have used it for 3G before with no problems and am in a "full signal" area at home) The rep told me there are some problems with 3G ATM , and it should be better in a day or so's time
I thought he was talking crap - so i went to the trouble of unlocking my MDA pro (needed doing anyway) , and lo and behold ....... only 2.5g coverage

typical ! I buy a 3G phone and the network packs up  :(

Is your Vodafone 3G still knackered in your area? Mine went down yesterday, and my W900i got all bitter and twisted about it. I had to power cycle it to get it to access a network again, and the 3G in my area is now back and running fine.

I cant test it on my 6680 as it is locked to 3 :( and they won't play ball and unlock it 'cos I bought it on eBay. Never mind, it can go in the history box with all the other old (!!) handsets.

We've had a couple of problems with 3G, but as far as I'm aware it's back up and running now.

Well it's all a bit bizzare TBH

I used to have my Voda sim in my XDA exec , and (at home) it showed 5 bars of full 3G signal
Now , If I put my Voda sim in the same phone (MDA pro - but with Identical firmware / radio) - I just get 5 bars of 2.5G , I can only get any 3G signal at all if I switch the settings to "UMTS only" - and then it is only 0-1 bar

It's almost as If my local 3G mast has been switched off since I last used 3G
Obviously the 6680 does not have the UMTS only option (only GSM only or Auto )

Bah !

That's very strange. I wonder what on earth happened to your local mast? :S I wonder if these outages have anything to do with HSDPA and capacity increases, or whether yours is a straight failure/vandalism etc. So many questions :D
