It was trumpetted as the great hope for 3, a cheap 3G Handset designed and made in China. 3 reckoned they could sell it at about £70 on PAYG.
A few months on and its hit the bottom of the price points. Its now langusihing at £9.99 on the 3 website when bought with £30 credit. This is exactly the same price as the appalling Motorola c975 (I had one!!).
Having had a play with a ZTE in a 3 shop I think I can understand the reason for its failure to generate interest at anything but the cheapest price point. It feels cheap and nasty and more like one of those horrid display phones in the shops. Looks are OK but its a handset that most young people would find very uncool and makes the cheapest Nokias and Motorolas feel like quality products.
The ZTE was a brave move for 3 but it appears to have been a mistake. Perhaps the next generation of ZTE products will be refined and be able to compete more effectively with budget models from other manufacturers.
