Cos after suffering the usual p*sstake at the hands of Onestopphoneshop (i.e. they swore blind that they would be in for despatch week beginning 3rd April on O2, and that I would "definitely" get it by Saturday 8th therefore, in order to get me to pre-order, they have now changed their site to say 'in from 24th April' - these people never change. I have just had it out with them, and they denied making any promise!).

But on the call, I WAS set to order it on Vodafone instead, as it is in stock, BUT, the guys at OSPS swear blind (not that I trust them much now) that the 6280 is now SIM locked, on Vodafone. This is a new one on me - O2 and Voda never used to SIM lock their handsets.

So can anyone with a Voda 6280 confirm or deny whether it is SIM locked to Vodafone please?

Hello, welcome to Talk3G :)

I think, but don't know, that handsets are locked to Vodafone these days, but it's usually easy enough to unlock them for around £15 with customer services...

I thought one of the conditions ofr this was that you are either:

Out of contract (so clearly no use on a new tariff), or:

You pay up the remaining months too (again no use on a new contract).

Besides, aren't these handsets (6280) so new that NO ONE, operators included, yet have the right codes - that's what I have heard..?

AFAIK (again, someone else will probably tell you more details on here in time) it's only Three who 'claim' not to have the right codes to unlock their handsets. The other networks are able to generate unlock codes for the handsets they sell.

I've also heard of Three insisting the customer is out of contract/paid up before allowing an unlock, but never Vodafone.

On Vodafone most if not all handsets are locked. If you've had the handset less than one year then it will cost £19.99 if you've had it more than one year then it's free of charge. Should be bale to get unlock codes for 6280, you might be waiting a couple of weeks when you've requested it though.
