QUALCOMM Announces Successful Completion of Interoperability Testing on NTT DoCoMos FOMA Network
Newswire, 2005-04-13 - QUALCOMM Incorporated ( Nasdaq: QCOM ), pioneer and world leader of Code Division Multiple Access ( CDMA ) digital wireless technology, today announced the successful completion of WCDMA interoperability testing ( IOT ) on NTT DoCoMo's 3GPP WCDMA-compliant FOMA network. The IOT began in June 2004 using QUALCOMM's Mobile Station Modem ( MSM ) MSM6250 chipset and software solution. The successful testing included extensive network performance, standby-time and talk-time evaluations.
In addition to the existing interoperability of QUALCOMM's solutions with global WCDMA networks, the successful conclusion of IOT with DoCoMo ensures that the software for the MSM6250 chipset and all future QUALCOMM WCDMA chipsets will also be fully compatible with the FOMA network.
QUALCOMM's solution will allow global mobile users to roam onto our FOMA network and take advantage of the advanced services we offer. We are sure this will lead to the rapid expansion of WCDMA globally, said Dr. Kazuhiko Kushima, vice president of Global Network Development Department for NTT DoCoMo. We also expect that the global expansion of QUALCOMM's product will enable us to create cost effective handsets which have integrated advanced multimedia and higher data rate capabilities, while reducing development costs and time-to-market.
