Tried my old Motorolla A-835 today and was surprised to see that I now have a full 3G signal. It used to be a bit patchy and switched from GSM to 3G and back every now and then (no problem really though because it does not drop calls when it switches), but now the 3G signal is the strongest I have ever seen where I live. I guess they have installed a new cell site locally.

If anyone has the settings for 02's 3G data service that would be useful. I'm pretty sure they have a dedicated address for 3G users but I'm still using the old 02 Active WAP settings. Any help re the above would be appreciated.

Don't think there are any any 3G specific settings for O2

My Exec has exactly the same settings as I've always used , and I have used these succesfully on 2.5G and 3G (on the isle of wight ferry !)
On the downside , it seems that o2's "3G" is limited to 128kbps , I have heard two sets of rumours - one is that if you call CS they will upgrade your service to "full speed" at your request - and the other is that the FASTEST you can have is 128kbps UNLESS you sacrifice voice capability :(

Haven't really bothered trying to upgrade yet though , as 3G signals are as rare as helpful "3" CS reps , so no point really , also data still appears to be completely charge free ATM ( 2G and 3G ) , so I'd hate them to change anything :D

Still just Orange, Vodafone and Three 3G here. It's unbelievable that you're still not paying for data! God bless O2, eh? 128kbps is a small price to pay for no price to pay.

Interesting wrt sacrificing voice capability... if that were true then god knows what O2 are building their network out of - mud and straw maybe?

A few people have rung o2 on the free data thing , and apparantly o2 have confirmed that data is free for contract customers until around May 06 - although my contract states it'll cost me £3 per MB !

Fortunately I can check my usage on o2's site - at the moment my usage is showing up as 0 despite heavy use , as soon as it starts to register usage I'll stop using it and probably switch to orange PAYG all you can eat for £1 per day (why they can't give me as good a deal on my contract account beats me ! )

Apparantly the "data only" option is intended for datacards - so the sacrificing of voice makes a little more sense when you take that into consideration , I am guessing that the 3G set up now is just a stop gap untill the "super 3G" is ready :)

I believe Videocalls are still being charged the same as voice too.

I had a check of the networks coverage at home the other day and I now have all 5 in UMTS coverage, T-Mob and O2 had been a little patchy however that all seems sorted.

Just out of interest I had a little muck about on O2's 3G network... and I was constantly getting "network busy" warnings when trying to connect voice calls, and this is around 10pm, not the best of starts! Anyone else on O2 3G finding similar situations?

Seems a bit strange that one eh? Surely every customer would just say yes to the full speed data and just use the 2G network for making voice calls, most networks (3 being the exception) don't want you using their UMTS network for voice, that's what their perfectly good GSM one is for.

I agee G , I am only going from what has been said by others , like I say , the coverage in my area is non existant so I haven't bothered even looking into it , here is a post on the XDA developers forum about it

In November a friend has an O2 2.5G phone, and every so often it kept coming up with the same message. But now all is fine again and that message about the network has not appeared since?
