visited a nokia service centre yesterday and asked them to put the generic firmware on it instead of the awful Orange one which has ruined the phone by putting on Orange homescreen rubbish.

this made the phone a lot quicker at doing things like text messaging - ie. opening the text message screen BUT...

Orange TV - this now will download but fails towards the end with an error 'unable to verify certificate'. When I had the Orange firmware loaded it downloaded but the web page would not allow me to activate the free trial. What a farce! Now it wont even install it!

Hey :)

I'd heard that there have been all kinds of problems with the Orange TV download recently anyway - but it certainly used to work fine on my Nokia 6680 (generic) a couple of months ago.

Although I appreciate this isn't helpful, the Orange TV (MobiTV) service is extremely poor. You're certainly not missing anything special.

cheers, when I first got the phone about a week ago it said 'temporarily unavailable' for a week which apparently was due to Orange taking if off line. then on friday it was back available for download - I downloaded it and it wouldnt allow me to subscribe - it said something like 'temporary fault please come back later'. I can't believe they are selling their new 3g phones as having this wonderful feature and it's so unstable.

I can't believe they have the cheek to call it Mobile TV! The company behind the application, MobiTV, doesn't appear to have the faintest idea about creating a streaming video application.

Try this...go into your settings, then app manager. Press options, go to settings and change online certif. check to off. Should install now.

I'm not sure that you'll find it worth the bother getting OrangeTV/MobiTV operational on your handset. It really is quite dreadful in terms of stability and quality of video and audio. I used MobiTV on 3 and my experience mirrors that of those using OrangeTV on Orange. So it does not appear to be a mobile network operator issue as much as a fundamental problem with the application itself.

If you're still getting nowhere by yourself it may be time to press Orange CS a bit harder for some second-line support. The app is not tied to the Orange-crippled version of the 6680's Operating System, so they cannot use that as an excuse. Moreso because you simply cant get as far as installing the app in the first place.

If it is a certification issue then Orange should be able to help you get the valid appl certificate installed on your 6680.

That said - isn't OTV monthly chargable (a tenner if I recall right)? If you're paying that then you are entitled to support from Orange CS, or a refund of the money towards your next bill.

I realise Orange TV may be a dogs dinner but as it's the main selling point of the phone it would be nice to play with! I've just spotted on another forum the same problem I'm getting with certificate invalid so that's a relief to see it's not just me!

Last time I spoke to Orange CS about it was friday and that's when I had orginal firmware loaded - they came back to me saying clear your cache and cookies which in my opinion was the response from someone who had not listened to my complaint properly as clearing cache/cookies will not cure the 'unable to subscribe' error. Customer Services are generally helpful but whenever you have a technical problem they take the details and then refer it to the tech department who wont speak to customers. Which is why it took me a week and a number of phone calls to sort out a minor problem with text messaging.

perhaps the app certificate is preloaded onto the orange firmware and therefore is lost if you revert to generic firmware.

Hmm. Know anyone else with that phone on Orange? Perhaps you could drop your memory card into their phone, install OTV to the card, and then put the card back in your own phone. Might work.

or I could order one from Orange direct and use it to do this and return it - only worth the hassle if Orange TV was getting good reviews. I've yet to hear anyone say anything possitive about it!
